9 Chapter 9
I decided to drop the act and lay all my cards on the table,
“Garrison, you heard me right, I called out your brother’s name
“Listen carefully, He’s a clone, but not of you. He’s a clone of your
brother”
Garrison’s face turned from pale to flushed as he listened, but be clearly hadn’t grasped the main point yet.
“Jolene, what are you talking about? Can’t have me, so you’re fantasizing about my brother?”
“He’s dead! Why would you do this? You’re being so twisted!”
Listening to Garrison’s outburst, I was at a loss for words. He was so full of himself.
“Do you remember the incident at Dane’s funeral?”
“His girlfriend was so overcome with grief that she tried to take her own life by jumping into the river, but she was rescued in the
end.”
“She was bedridden in the hospital for nearly a year. Afterward. she decided to participate in a cloning program and spent the next seven years looking for a stand–in to ease her heartache.”
“So she found her lover’s twin brother and stayed by his side, playing the role of a devoted admirer for seven years.”
“Well? Does any of this sound familiar to you?”
As I finished speaking, Garrison stood there completely stunned,

his face a picture of disbelief.
“Jolene, what nonsense are you spouting…“How could your feelings for me possibly be fake?”
“How could you be my brother’s girlfriend? You clearly love me so
much…”
Seeing that he was still lost in delusion, my patience had run out.
“Then you just wait and see if I’ll come back to you.”
“But I want to tell you in advance, it’s not going to happen, Garrison. Even if you wait a lifetime, until you’re old and dead, I will never come back to you.”
“What we had was just a transaction where we each got what we
needed. Now the deal is over, and we owe each other nothing.”
With that, I took Dane’s hand and turned to leave.
No matter how much Garrison roared behind me, I never looked
back.
