Slap the green tea adopted daughter who pretended to be my
daughter
Chapter 1
- 1.
At my fiancé Chad’s grandma’s birthday bash,
Mia
died
the girl my dad took in after her mom
suddenly snatched the gift I had in my hands, announcing it to the whole room.
“Grandma Peterson, I am so sorry. Our little charity case here doesn’t have any manners and tried to swipe my gift for you.”
L
“Don’t mind her, Mrs. Peterson. I’ll make sure
my Dad lays down the law when we get
home.”
The snide tone and put–down stung, and the
old me would have probably just faded into
the background.
Too bad for her, I remembered all of it in my
dream.
So I grabbed the gift back and slammed it on the floor, retorting, “Since when did anything from my family become your little act?”
“And you want my Dad to discipline me? You
gonna call up your Dad? The one who just got
out after doing ten years for armed robbery?”
…The whole party went dead quiet.
Everyone was staring, whispering.
Mia’s face twisted for a split second, but she
recovered fast, lowering her head and putting
on her best victim act.
“Hailey, I know you’re upset that I didn’t help
you pick out a gift.”
“But this is Grandma Peterson’s birthday. The only reason you’re even here is because Chad and I begged to include you.”
Г
That whiny, humble act got her instant
sympathy.
Some busybody even piped up, “Hailey, you
need to be grateful your foster family took
you in. You really think you’re one of them?”
“Mia is the only true heiress of the Smith
family.”
Mia gave a little flicker of a smile and
grabbed my hand, saying sweetly, “Hailey,
let’s not fight, okay?
“Didn’t you say you wanted the ‘Heart of the
Ocean‘ necklace?
<
“I’ll give it to you when we get back, deal?”
Suddenly, the party was buzzing.
“The ‘Heart of the Ocean‘? Isn’t that the
Smith family heirloom? Worth, like, thirty
million bucks?”
“Mia is so generous, just offering it like that!”
“How can this foster kid be so shameless?”
The accusations kept coming, playing out exactly as I’d remembered in my dream.
Last time around, Dad took out his grief on
<
me for Mom’s death by adopting Mia and
bringing her everywhere, and the whole city
thought that she was his real daughter.
She even stole credit for the gift I had, which
caused me all this embarrassment.
But this time, I knew better and I wasn’t going
to allow it!
I yanked my hand away from her, laughing a
little.
“The ‘Heart of the Ocean‘ is already mine. What makes you think it is yours to give?”
“Mia, you’ve been pretending to be me for too

“Mia, you’ve been pretending to be me тor too
long.
“You’re forgetting your place!”
“Keep pushing it, and I might just let your
recently released dad and his old buddies find
you.”
“I wouldn’t mind a daughter/father reunion.”
Hearing the serious tone in my voice, Mia
visibly flinched.
Then a voice cut through the tension.
“What in the world is going on here?”
<
People parted to let Grandma Peterson pass,
her cane tapping on the floor. After hearing a quick explanation, her eyes narrowed.
“Hailey, is it?
“Chad has mentioned you a couple of times.”
“Mia is a gracious girl, and she has the patience for your antics, but if you keep
stirring up trouble, don’t expect us to be
polite.”
Hearing the threat, I couldn’t help smiling.
“Impolite?”
“Didn’t your family beg my family to give you
a grandson–in–law?”
“Now you’re going to act all tough?
Grandma Peterson, not expecting me to be so
disrespectful, immediately retorted, “How
dare you!
“You’re just a foster kid, trying to ruin my
party, huh?”
“Security, get this troublemaker out of here!”
As the guards started moving, I said calmly, “This banquet hall is owned by my family.

“Anyone who touches me will be blacklisted in
this city.”
“And those of you jumping to conclusions,
figure out if you can afford to mess with the
Smiths!”
Seeing my confidence, everyone hesitated.
Grandma Peterson slammed her cane on the
floor, but she didn’t dare throw me out
outright.
“Go get Chad.”
“He’s met his fiancée at the Smith house
く
more than once.”
“I want to see how many words this girl says
that are true!”
Chad was there soon after.
