Chapter 4
After stepping out of the elevator in the hospital’s underground parking, Zane and Celeste were the first to walk out.
The two of them strolled ahead, chatting on and off like a perfect couple.
I’m his wife, yet I followed behind him.
As we passed by the orthopedics
department, Uncle Beta’s wife May came out holding a medical chart.
Seeing Zane, she was clearly surprised.
“Zane, it’s been a while! Where have you been? Old Alpha passed away, and you didn’t come back. Lately, all the Pack matters have been handled by Marlowe.”

“What!?” Zane furrowed his brow, incredulous.
“Our Pack was ambushed. Old Alpha was sneak–attacked while defending us and passed away a couple of days ago. It’s truly unfortunate. If you had been there, maybe there would have been a chance, after all, the old Alpha had taught you everything. What a mess this is!”
Zane turned pale, rushing forward to grab me harshly before I could get far.
Celeste, looking flustered, hurried over as well.
“Marlowe! Why didn’t you tell me Dad passed away!”
I laughed bitterly at his accusation, “Are you

sure I didn’t tell you?”
I shifted my gaze from him to Celeste’s face beside him.
Sensing that the truth was about to come out, Celeste quickly squeezed out a few
tears.
Just as she was about to speak up, Zane dragged me to a nearby stairwell.
“Dad’s gone, why didn’t you tell me, why didn’t you let me know to come back for the surgery!
“May just said Dad was still savable; it was just too chaotic that day. No one understood his condition, and the best time for treatment was missed! You should have notified me!”

Zane questioned me with a face full of sadness, tears streaming down.
In the past, I might have comforted him, saying that Father was already seriously ill.
Even if he had performed the surgery, there was a high chance Father wouldn’t make it.
But now, looking at him, I felt no sympathy at all.
His crying even seemed a bit nauseating.
Thinking about Father, I was really upset, which is the key reason I had to leave him!
This was the knot in my heart, but today, that knot was untied, and my suppressed emotions spiraled out of control.
He kept asking, over and over, “Marlowe, why

didn’t you tell me, why didn’t you tell me?”
I wiped away tears and an angry expression crossed my face.
“I called you, but you didn’t answer.”
I choked on my sobs, but my voice remained firm.
Upon saying this, Zane looked up at me: “Impossible…”
“When I called you, Celeste picked up. Didn’t she tell you anything?”
The long–held suppression and grievance made me feel strong at this moment.
I wore a clear look of anger, and my voice rose a few notches.
