Chapter 5
Just then, Celeste caught up with us.
Realizing we had already talked about the phone call.
Celeste quickly put on a tearful act.
“Zane, Marlowe called, but I couldn’t hear clearly what she was saying, thinking it was nothing important, so I forgot to tell you.”
I took in her innocent act with a mocking smile, “You couldn’t hear clearly?”
“Are you deaf?”
Having had enough, I broke my calm demeanor.

Faced with my fierceness, Celeste flopped weakly into Zane’s arms.
She was sobbing weakly, almost out of breath, looking guilty.
“I’m sorry, Zane. It’s all my fault I didn’t hear clearly…”
I thought Zane would blame her, considering it involved my father’s death.
But instead, Zane held her steadily in his
arms.
“It’s alright, I don’t blame you. What’s done is done. Even if I had known this news in time, I wouldn’t have been able to make it back.”
He spoke righteously, treating Celeste in a completely different way than he treated me.

Apparently, if Celeste made a mistake, he could find an excuse to cover it up for her.
But innocent me had to face his
accusations.
Thinking back to when we were in the hospital, Celeste and I were both invited to participate in a program.
But the promotional PPT, which we had both prepared, went missing. The director berated us harshly.
Zane, standing beside us, frowned and said:
“It was my wife who was too irresponsible. I apologize on her behalf, Director. Celeste is new to the hospital and made a small mistake. I hope the director won’t be too harsh.”

I looked at him coldly.
The PPT was last in Celeste’s hands; she was the one who misplaced it.
Yet Zane took the blame upon himself and spoke up for Celeste.
“Marlowe, apologize to the Director.”
I was so upset I cried.
The PPT was lost because of Celeste, yet he wanted me to apologize?
His favoritism left me feeling cold.
But that night, he easily placated me with a small cake.
He explained that his actions were simply to accommodate a newcomer, with no other

intentions.
And I believed him.
But this time, I didn’t need his explanations, nor did I need his placation.
“I Marlowe Miller reject you Zane Smith as my mate. I’m going to become the Alpha of the Red Moon pack, and I cannot accept a mate who is weak and has other lovers. I’ve already drafted the divorce agreement. It’ll be at the house tomorrow for you to sign.“”
I ignored their reactions and didn’t wait for Zane to speak, leaving directly.
