Ethan’s laughter echoed in the quiet hallway.
“No way. A few days ago, Jenny and I were arguing. She can’t be dead!”
Miller said firmly, “Ethan, get a grip! You said
that was days ago!”
He hadn’t even tried to find me.
Just blamed me.
“I remember!”

Lily shouted and everyone ran back into the
room.
Tears filled her eyes.
“I remember how Jenny died.”
“A gang of guys kidnapped me and took me to an abandoned warehouse. I saw Jenny, but I didn’t say anything to her. The guys called my dad and asked him to tell them things. Then, they’d kill me.
Miller looked down.

I heard Miller’s voice in my head.
“Lily, Daddy loves you forever.”
Miller had only failed his daughter.
The kidnappers pushed Lily off a second- story platform.
I couldn’t let her die.
I jumped and grabbed her.
I landed on my back.

Then a voice shouted, “She’s a cop!”
I put the barrette in her hand.
I pushed her and pointed at the moon.
“Go, run!”
Run.
The moon was bright.
It’s my home.
I won’t return.
