Jake didn’t react at first.
Then, his voice rasped, “What did you say?”
His assistant didn’t dare repeat it. Instead, he
pulled up a video on his phone and showed it
to Jake.
The video showed the ocean at sunrise.
A woman stood at the water’s edge, arms
outstretched, and then jumped in.
Some photographer taking scenic shots had
caught it by accident.

“No way. That’s not Liz!”
Jake stumbled back.
The woman in the video had glanced back
before jumping.
Just that quick look was enough for Jake to
recognize me.
My supposed death was all over the news.
Everyone was heartbroken, saying I was too
young to die and didn’t get to enjoy the high
life.
Jake was the only one who didn’t believe it.
Even the body was identified by Jake’s sister,
Sarah
く
I’d been taken in by the Smiths to be their
brain dead son’s bride.
I didn’t want to waste my life like that.
So, I’d made a point of getting close to Sarah.
As the CEO of Smith Corp, she could get me
out of that mess.
Sarah had a high blood pressure attack.
I carried her to the hospital.
Sarah was grateful to me and decided she
wanted me as her sister–in–law.
She arranged for me to meet Jake, and that’s
when I realized he was the college crush I’d
been obsessed with.
L
He seemed to like me too.
But a week before the wedding, Jake found
out I’d been trying to get close to Sarah.
He thought I’d saved Sarah on purpose, just
to get to the rich family. He turned on me,
and he refused to sign the marriage
certificate.
He said, “Liz, you’re lucky to be marrying into
the Smith family. You’re just a figurehead of
Mrs. Smith, and you’re still not happy!”
As for our kid, that was Sarah’s request.
I’d wanted to leave a year before.
The Smiths didn’t have a lot of family, so
Sarah wanted me to have a kid before I left.
Jake hated me so much that he hadn’t
touched me since our wedding night.
So, Sarah slipped something into Jake’s drink
and locked us in the bedroom.
When Jake woke up, he hated me even more.
Even though he knew Sarah had set it up, he
still thought I’d put her up to it.
When I found out I was pregnant, Jake
dragged me to the clinic.
“Liz, you don’t deserve to have my baby. I
won’t let a scheming woman like you stay in
the Smith family. After the abortion, get the
hell out!”
As I lay on the table, Sarah burst in and
stopped Jake.
All those years of lies came crashing down,
and Jake choked out, “It’s my fault. I never
trusted her.”
“Come on, Liz is gone. Just do one thing and
go pay your respects, she loved you before
and you still can’t meet her?”
Hearing Sarah’s plea, Jake finally pulled
himself together. He fixed himself up and
went to my funeral.
I lay in the casket, pale and bloated from the
water.
Jake took my hand and begged for

“Liz, I’m so sorry. Why did you have to kill
yourself to punish me?”
Then, he noticed a birthmark on my arm and
looked shocked.
