I wanted to sleep. But Liam usually got home
late, and he’d wake me up.
Now he was in the guest room, so I could
sleep through the night.
I wasn’t making dinner for him either.
I was fully focused on this big project at
work.
I ate breakfast on the go and had dinner at
my desk. I had so much energy.
Ever since we got married, I’d put Liam at the
center of my universe.
I would text him all day long, telling him how
much I missed him.
He barely responded, but I didn’t care.
I was always trying to get home early to make
dinner.
But he was always busy. He might spend
some time with friends or family.
Now that I wasn’t focused on him, my life
was so much easier. My productivity went up.
After the project was over, I relaxed for the
first time in months.
I opened up Instagram, which I hadn’t touched
for a while.
I was curious about what Chloe had posted.

Sure enough, she and Liam had been hanging
out a lot.
They went camping and did all sorts of
things.
He seemed so happy.
I used to be on the phone, screaming at Liam
about it.
He would explain it at first, but eventually he
would get annoyed and say that I was crazy.
Then he’d leave, slamming the door behind
him.
Now, seeing all those photos, I felt nothing.

She smiled sweetly. “Hey! Didn’t see you
there. Liam was driving me home after dinner.
Hope you don’t mind?”
I laughed. “Of course not.”

Liam got in the car and looked back at me.
He hesitated and explained, “Chloe gets
carsick. She’s more comfortable in the front.”
I nodded.
He hesitated before turning back around.
I used to ride shotgun all the time.
I even told him, “This is my spot.”
Liam was annoyed by it. “It’s just a seat.
What’s the difference?”
I just wanted to sit next to him.

I didn’t understand any of it, so I closed my
eyes and pretended to sleep.
Then Chloe turned around and asked, “Why
didn’t you come to Dave’s birthday party the
other day?”
Dave’s birthday? I opened my eyes.
Nobody invited me.
“I didn’t know he was having one,” I said.
Chloe said, “Really? But Dave and Liam are
best friends.”
I just smiled.

Last month, Liam picked Chloe up and spent
the night with her.
When I asked Dave about it, he made excuses
for Liam.
He didn’t know that I had already figured it
out.
After Chloe finished talking, Liam checked on
