- 4.
This was the first time I had heard Chris say
this.
The opposite of what he said to me before.
My mind was blank, and my heart was broken.
Ashley was smug: “Exactly, does she think
she is important? If I didn’t go overseas, Chris
would never look at her. She can’t survive
without Chris, but she thought he couldn’t live
without her?”
Chris just smiled.
Г
I still hadn’t sent him a message for days.
He finally couldn’t sit still, and he went home.
Ashley didn’t let him.
“Why are you going back? You promised me,
you can’t go back on your word!”
She cried, if Chris tried to go back, she was
going to cry to him.
Chris gave up, and stayed with Ashley on the
couch, watching romantic movies.
I thought that he wasn’t going to have other
thoughts.
I underestimated his greed.
While he was with Ashley, he sent me a text.
“What’s going on with you? I’m going to be
home for dinner tonight, remember to cook.
I’m here, don’t get mad, okay?”
But no one was mad at him.
I died, my corpse was rotting.
The empty house would no longer have a
woman who waited for him, cooking him a
home–cooked meal.
There would never be a Riley who used her
heart to love him…
Chris couldn’t hear.
<
He sent a text, and Ashley fell asleep. He got
up, and dressed, driving home.
It’s good that he’s going back, he can find out
the truth.
But things didn’t go as planned.
There was a lot of traffic.
It took thirty minutes to move a bit, Chris
pinched his forehead and his phone rang.
It was Ashley, he would never ignore her.
“What’s wrong? Did you wake up? I’m going
to get you something to eat, I’ll be back.
soon…”
“Chris, vou are a jerk! You are a liar. I’m sad I
don’t like you anymore! I’m going to forget
you and find a new man!”
Ashley was drunk, in the music was Ashley
yelling Chris’s name.
Chris clenched his phone: “Where are you?”
“None of your business! Find Riley! I don’t
want you anymore!”
The call ended, and Chris was angry.
He went over to Ashley, who was grabbing a
random man while crying, calling Chris’s
name.
Chris punched the man.
The man tried to get up.
<
“Who are you! You trying to steal my girl!?”
Chris was mad: “I should say the same to
you! Who do you think you are?”
They fought.
Ashley stared at Chris, sober, like she was
looking at prey.
I turned, watching.
In the lights, Chris was fighting, like he saved
me before.
But I knew, that he was now Ashley’s Chris.
My childhood disappeared.
:
<
Adults fighting ended in a jail cell.
Chris thought of me.
He sat on the bench, about to make a call.
Was he scared?
I sat by his side.
He looked up.
The officer stopped, staring at him.
“Are you Chris?”
Chris was tired, saying yes.
The officer stared at him.
“Wow, your wife has been dead for days,
people can’t find you, and you are here
fighting for another woman.”
