Chapter 11
My response was way off.
Carol and Jessica frowned, and the reporters
looked surprised.
I acted like I didn’t notice and went on. “I felt
terrible about not being able to give Mark a
kidney. So, I talked to a doctor to see if there
were any other options.”
“You won’t believe what I found out! Carol
and Jessica are also matches! And they’re even better matches than me! I only matched four out of six. They matched five and six!” “That’s why I decided not to donate. But I was afraid to say anything. I thought Carol and
Jessica wouldn’t want to. Since you two are
willing, that’s amazing!”
Carol and Jessica looked stunned, unable to
argue. I was telling the truth.
Jessica had told me all about this when I was
on my deathbed.
She told me she and Carol had been tested at
another hospital. They’d been playing me the
whole time.
The reporters couldn’t hold back anymore.
They shut off their cameras and started
talking.
[They talk about not forcing her? Then why
don’t you donate?]
[How shameless. They want someone else’s
kidney to be the hero. They wouldn’t have
donated!]
[How disgusting. Ashley, don’t donate!]
[You’re lucky you found out. You would have
been in for a world of pain.]
Carol and Jessica couldn’t take it anymore.
They dragged Mark away.
