His face went pale.
I was right.
Because of his actions, Tom was demoted
and lost his home.
After Tom lost his promotion, Carol started
ignoring him.
Tom asked her to use the money from his
brother to buy a house in the city, so he could
be close to her and the kids.

But Carol refused. She packed her bags and
moved into a home with a single Sergeant.
Tom found out that Carol had been seeing
that Sergeant for a while, taking care of him.

She had been giving my paychecks to that

That broke Tom’s heart, and he finally knew

“Sarah, I was such an idiot. You’re capable

If he had said this two years ago, I would
have cried.

together with him.

Tom saw that I wasn’t talking and got more
emotional. “Sarah, I’ve always loved you, I’ve
been writing you letters every month, I miss
you. You know that.”

thinking about me or were you feeling guilty?”
Tom stopped.
“When you gave me those letters, did you
start liking Carol and feel guilty about it?” |
saw through him. “Tom, a full heart can’t buy
a grain of rice, and your letters can’t feed my
kids. I dreamt that my kids froze to death in
the winter, but you didn’t shed a tear.”
Tom stopped.
He looked pained.
I kicked him out. “Leave. My kids don’t need a
father like you.” From then on, Tom came to
my house often.

I told him that he was wasting his time. I
wasn’t going to forgive him.
He laughed sadly. “I’m not asking for
forgiveness, I’m just trying to make things
right.”
I let him see the kids.
I thought the kids would forgive him.
But the kids took what Tom gave them, but
they didn’t forgive him.
When I asked them why, my son said that
when I kneeled on the ground and begged
Tom, he didn’t look back, and that’s when he
stopped seeing him as a father.
“Dad doesn’t know that he made a mistake,
but he regrets what happened. You were
right. The only thing he wants is to get rid of
Carol now.”
I was surprised by what my son had said.
Then, I ran into the Colonel’s wife on the
street.
When the Colonel was helping me find a job,
the Colonel’s wife had heard what happened
and had invited me to dinner at her house.
The Colonel’s wife was from the country.
She had raised kids in the country, and she
knew how hard it was.
When we met again, she brought me back to
her house.
She brought up Carol.
Carol moved into the Sergeant’s house, but
they didn’t get married.
After six months, the Sergeant’s wife showed

The town found out that the Sergeant had
two wives and four kids.
She slapped Carol and knocked her out.
After Carol got out of the hospital, she went
to see Tom.
