The mood in the office was heavy.
Leo, on the other hand, was strutting around
like a peacock:
く
“See? I told you it was worth studying that
hearing!”
“You don’t often find a hearing that’s a mix
of good and bad!”
Leo gave Amber a pointed look.
Amber snapped:
“Everyone makes mistakes when they’re
new!”
“Even if she did lose a case, has Sue never
lost a case before?”
“Why is everyone picking on me?”
Amber started crying, trying to get sympathy.
Leo laughed.
“Some people are shameless, they’re the
ones who clean up after others.”
“Sue’s lost cases before, but she fought
tooth and nail. You ran away!”
“I’m not like some of your friends, who’ll fall
for anything.”
Amber sputtered:
<
“You… you… how dare you…
I smiled slightly and said:
“”
“Leo asked you a couple of questions, and
you shut down.
“With your language skills and emotional
control, you should quit being a lawyer!”
Amber opened her mouth, but couldn’t come
up with a response.
Tommy, can’t bear to see Amber get hurt,
stated:
“Sue, Frank said we’re dropping this. Why are
you bringing it up?”
“Not everyone is a good talker like you! Why
are you pushing her so hard?!”
I smiled sarcastically:
“You wanna tell me what to do again?”
I picked up my water bottle and splashed it in
his face:
“We’re done! You, Dave, and Amber can all
live happily ever after! See how that works for
Г
you!”
“Our firm has its own winter flame.”
I left the office.
Leo followed me, still trying to get me to join
his firm.
Amber’s “genius” image had been destroyed.
She’d always been a little flaky, not wanting
to do the tedious grunt work.
But people had cut her slack, figuring
geniuses had a right to be a little arrogant.
Now, they were all hating on her:
“I thought she was some hotshot based on
what Frank said! Turns out she’s a total
moron!”
“I’d rather partner with a dog than her! At
least a dog wouldn’t screw up the law or take
credit for my work!”
“Anyone stuck with her is doomed! How does
she have the nerve to stay at the firm?”
