Missed Moments
Chapter One
Seeing Jake again after five years of him
being gone was at Ashley’s wedding.
He was the groom, and I was a bridesmaid.
Ashley, all bubbly, dragged me over to share
their love story.
“I’m the one who pulled him from that car wreck, you know? Apparently, he had some fiancé, but I got him airlifted outta the country that night for treatment.”
“I mean, talk about a boss move, right?”
Ashley kept gabbing, but I couldn’t hear a
damn thing; just this high–pitched ringing in
my ears.
Five years, almost two thousand freaking
days, and the man I loved most was hidden
away by my best friend?
I bent over, gasping for air, my whole body
shaking like a leaf.
Ashley, noticing my pale face, quickly ushered
me into the bridal suite.
She asked, all concerned, “Hey, are you okay? Is your depression acting up again?”
<
Is your depression acung up again?
These past five years, searching for Jake, I’d
been everywhere, asked everyone, plastered missing posters, even paid for trending hashtags.
Even his family gave up hope, but I kept searching.
Countless nights, I stood at the edge of the
road, ready to end this despair.
Now? It all felt like a joke.
Looking at the scars on my right wrist,
crisscrossed and faded, my eyes burned, and
my heart felt like it was being ripped apart.
Ashley sighed, “Are you thinking about your
L
fiancé again? You gotta stop looking. It’s
been forever; he’s probably… you know,
gone.”
“I’ll set you up with one of Jake’s buddies
soon.”
Just then, Jake walked in, all sharp in his
black tux, no different than five years ago.
Our eyes met, but he just glanced at me, then
went to fuss over Ashley’s dress.
His groomsmen followed him, all our old
friends. Most of them I knew.
When they saw me, they all looked like they
wanted to say something but couldn’t.
If this was a while ago, I could say he had
In this was a wille ayu, i could say me au
amnesia, that he couldn’t remember me.
But his friends were telling me he
remembered everything.
Just that he didn’t love me anymore.
Ashley chirped, “Honey, tell your friends to
stick around tonight, okay? Let’s have some
fun!”
She winked at me.
Jake just nodded, didn’t even look at me.
Like we were strangers.
Slowly, I closed my eyes, my heart clenched
like a fist and thrown into a burning fire.
<
I had never felt this bad, I needed to let it out.
I stood up and dashed to the bathroom,
slamming my head against the wall. The bang
made me see stars, and my head was
instantly covered with blood.
I almost fell but relied on the wall, and a
sharp pain hit my head.
I started to slam my head on the wall again
and again. It was like the only way to release
the pain.
It was too painful.
I curled up, my heart aching.
Then I laughed.
“Jake, you don’t want me anymore…”
…I walked out of the bathroom as the
wedding had begun.
Because I was not feeling well, Ashley had
another person as the bridesmaid.
I stood in the back, watching Ashley, with a
bright smile, saying “I do“.
Jake knelt on one knee and put the ring on
Ashley’s ring finger, and I felt a sudden sense
of jealousy.
I wanted to rush to the stage and stop them,
and ask Ashley, “Why take my fiance from
me? Why did you hide him away? And why
would you make me try to find him for 5
years.”
I also wanted to ask Jake. “Why did you
pretend you didn’t know me? And why did everyone hide this from me?”
I wanted to destroy this wedding.
But I couldn’t.
I sat in the corner. After they said their vows,
I was the first to clap.
I clapped very loud and many people turned
their heads towards me.
I didn’t care, and I locked eyes with Jake.
Our eyes met, and I almost cried but held it
in, and the tears fell.
Г
Jake’s brows twitched, and he stared back,
with no emotions.
I clenched my hands and thought to myself,
“I’m going crazy.”
