On my last day in the country, I went to the
company to hand over my work.
David was stopped at the entrance but
remained there, watching over me.
As I worked, I heard former colleagues
whispering and pointing.
“That’s Mr. Jason’s cheating fiancé, right?
Cheating at her parents‘ grave, how
ungrateful.”
My phone buzzed with a deluge of photos of
David and me.

The trending topic climbed higher, and
cancellations poured in.
“I wouldn’t let a cheater design my wedding!
Scum like you should just die!”
My inbox was flooded with vicious insults.
I calmly cleared the messages and prepared
to leave, but Jason and Alex blocked me in
the stairwell.
Their eyes were bloodshot.
“Emily, I knew you’d come to us.”
“We’re getting married tomorrow, and the
rumors will disappear,” Jason said anxiously,
trying to hold my hand. “I know you and that

Alex echoed his brother.
“Yeah, are you still mad that we threw your
stuff out? It was just a joke, that stuff was old
anyway.”
I tried to pull my hand away and asked
pointedly, “Did you do this?”
A flicker of guilt crossed their faces, and they
tightened their grip on my hand.
Seeing my lack of reaction, they became
more frantic.
“Sarah did it. She’s already been punished.
The top planner position is still yours…”
<
Of course, I knew Sarah did it. She cried all
morning because they demoted her one level.
A steady stream of jewelry was discreetly
delivered to her private office as consolation.
I just shook my head. “Do you remember
those were gifts you gave me?”
They froze.
“Old things should be replaced.” I calmly
pulled my hand away and turned to leave.
“Emily!” Their voices were harsh behind me.
“You’re a wedding planner, are you going to
let these rumors ruin your future?”
I knew Sarah was just the bait for the photos.
<
Weren’t they the ones fanning the flames
behind the scenes?
I nodded. “Then let’s pick a wedding dress.”
Their eyes lit up, their faces ecstatic.
“I knew you couldn’t leave us! Let’s go see
the wedding venue now!”
I almost laughed.
Because I was looking at their wedding
dresses so I wouldn’t clash.
Even though David’s family had influence, I
still didn’t want to wear the same basic
design as someone else.

But their faces changed when they saw the
cushion on the floor and pulled me to the
back seat.
I pretended not to notice.
David’s car followed at a distance, and we
arrived at the wedding venue.
The two brothers, for the first time in a long
time, opened the car doors for me, one after
the other.
Unlike the time they left me in the rain to rush
into a party while they escorted Sarah with all
their bodyguards.
They were cautious. “Look, this is based on
your wedding plan.”
“These are TV reporters, I’ll clarify the truth to
them tomorrow…”
Before he finished speaking, their eyes
widened.
The wedding venue was a mess, the bouquet
a garish green.
Sarah rushed out. “You’re here! Ah!”
Seeing me, she put on a frightened act, trying
to throw herself into Jason’s arms.
But Alex angrily pulled her away.
“Who told you to change things?!”
He kept glancing at me nervously.
<
Sarah’s eyes welled up. “You demoted me! I
wanted to contribute more, so I focused on
this big wedding! You gave me the access
pass to all the planning areas!”
Whenever she cried, they would usually hug
and comfort her.
But now they just rushed to me.
“Emily, don’t overthink it, we only gave her
the pass because you were temporarily
away!”
Sarah’s face flushed red and white with
anger.
I shook my head, handing them the chosen
wedding dress photo.
After all, this design was one of my lost
drafts, I didn’t know how it ended up in
Sarah’s hands.
And they had given her the access pass years
ago.
Seeing I had chosen a dress, they were
relieved.
“We’ll pick you up tomorrow, don’t worry
about the rumors, we’ll get you bigger clients
in the future!”
I responded indifferently, checking my ticket
and the final proposal.
