I couldn’t believe Ashley actually married
Kevin.
She used to be so in love with me, braving a
downpour to confess.
She’d said, “John, I love you. Will you be with
me?”
Looking at her youthful face, I knew I
couldn’t.
She was my sister.
Then, on her 18th birthday, I drank too much.
Consumed by thoughts of her, I couldn’t

control myself. I went to her, kissed her.
Told her I loved her.
I regretted it the next day. People would
judge me for being with my dad’s adopted
daughter.
But I couldn’t bring myself to hurt Ashley, so I
made the excuse about waiting until after
graduation.
During her final year, I contacted her
professors, arranging for her mandatory
exchange program.
I thought, if I couldn’t see her, I’d stop loving
her.
After she left, I got together with Jessica.
