That’s what I thought.X
As Seram made his way toward me, his hands reaching with predatory certainty, he was suddenly yanked away. The movement was so abrupt that the force of it sent a gust of air toward me
My limbs trembled as I tried to move, to see what had happened, but all I could make out against the smothering darkness was the silhouette of a figure and the eerie glow of green eyes..
Eyes burning with unfiltered rage and hatred X
The stranger had seized Seram, tearing him from me as though he were nothing more than a ragdoll, and hurled him to the ground with enough force that the earth beneath us seemed to tremble. The impact sent up a plume of dust, and for a heartbeat, there was nothing but heavy silence.
Then, a voice… hoarse, raw, filled with restrained fury, spoke.
“I warned you, Seram. I told you not to come near her.”
It was Syrus.

His presence alone made the very air hum with dominance. The weight of his aura pressed against my shivers through my exhausted body. But Seram only chuckled, the sound dark and ta
“You have no part in this, Syrus,” he sneered, pushing himself up from the dirt with a slow, deliberate movement. “She’s still my mate.“%
Syrus let out a dry, humorless laugh.
“You think so?” He took a step forward, looming over Seram like a shadow of death. “That bond was severed when she died. Or did you forget?”
That connection? The
His smirk was razor–sharp, lethal in its amusement. “Tell me, Seram, can you feel it? That pull? That so–called bond of being mates?
Seram’s expression flickered, just for a fraction of a second. The truth sank in, washing over him like ice water. There was no bond. Nothing tethered me to him anymore.
The realization must have been unbearable, because Seram lunged. His snarl ripped through the night as he launched himself at Syrus, claws extended, teeth bared. But Syrus was faster.
Brutally fast.
One second, Seram was mid–air, and the next, he was slammed to the ground again, Syrus pinning him effortlessly. And then, the beating began.
It was ruthless Precise. Every punch landed with the sickening crunch of breaking bone. Seram fought back, but he wast outmatched in every way. Blood sprayed across the dirt, staining the ground beneath them, and still, Syrus didn’t stop until Seram’s movements became sluggish, until his gasps turned to weak groans
When Syrus finally stood, Seram was nothing more than a barely–breathing heap.
Syrus turned to me, his chest rising and falling heavily, the rage in his expression shifting into something else, something almost vulnerable. He closed the distance between us in an instant, his sharp gaze scanning me, lingering on the bruises and the faint marks on my neck.!

I leaned into his warmth, too drained to respond properly, only managing to whisper, I’m fine… nothing happened.“!! Syrus pulled back slightly, eyes bored into mine, searching. Then, as if reassuring himself, he cradled my face, his thumb. brushing against my cheek.
“Thankfully,” he said, voice tight. “Good thing that we, from the pure blood of the Moon Shard Pack, are immune to most drugs and poisons. It only slowed me down because I’ve been exhausting myself protecting the pack. I woke up when I heard the wild wolves.”
Outside, I could hear the clash of bodies, the sounds of combat as Syrus‘ subordinates fought off the intruding wolves. The chaos was fading, though, the battle nearing its end.”
“You’re safe now,” he assured me. His hands were careful as he wiped away the grime on my skin, as he dressed practiced gentleness, “Rest, Marian. I’ll deal with Seram.

The weight of exhaustion finally won, pulling me into darkness before I could say another word.”
When I woke the next morning, my body felt heavy, but I could move. The dull aches reminded me of last night’s events, but the worst had passed.
Beside me, Caleb and Lucas were on the bed with Lucas playing with his toys, Caleb looking bored out of his mind.!!

The moment Caleb noticed I was awake, he grinned and pounced on me. “You’re awake!
I hugged him back, the warmth of his small frame comforting.
Caleb then pouted and started his tirade of complaints towards Syrus. “He did not allow me to leave the tent. He said there was an accident last night.”
I ruffled his hair. “Then be good and stay here, okay? Look after Lucas.”
Once I made sure they were safe, I stepped outside.}
The aftermath was worse than I expected. The bodies of wild wolves littered the ground, blood soaking the dirt in dark patches. Warriors moved efficiently, dragging corpses away, cleaning up the destruction. But what caught my attention was the representatives of the wolf alliances. Syrus must have called them to preside over what happened.
Syrus found me immediately. “You shouldn’t be out here.”
“I’m fine. I was worried… and I wanted to ask if the paralyzing powder affected Caleb and Lucas.”
“They were checked,” he assured me. “They’ll feel lethargic for a few days, but it’ll pass once the drug is flushed from their systems.”
Relief washed over me. Then, hesitantly, I asked, “What happened to Seram?
Syrus simply shrugged, then nodded toward a direction behind me.”
I turned just in time to see it.
A makeshift platform. Warriors surrounding it, their expressions unreadable. And a single man standing at the center, gripping a massive axe.
The axe swung down.
The sickening sound of metal meeting flesh. The dull thud of something heavy hitting the ground. Seram’s head rolled away, his lifeless eyes staring blankly at nothing.
