It was just as good as I imagined
That one little treat lifted my mood for the entire day
For the next few days, a bouquet arrived at my desk every morning, always with a handwritten card.
Gossip spread through the company like wildfire–people whispering that I was seducing the CEO while keeping ties with other men.
Luckily, there was no drama in my department. My work spoke for itself, and my colleagues knew better.
But the one fueling the rumors was none other than my fucking ex.
Ugh, his over–the–top, public pursuit was becoming a headachel‘

Henrik texted me, asking if I needed help.
Chapter 18%
I asked him how he planned to help, and his reply was: [Just admit I’m your suitor, or be with me. That way, the rumors won’t be rumors anymore
I replied seriously: Hank, I’m not in the mood for jokes 1
Being wrapped up in rumors means people who don’t know me will judge me based on them, making them question my professionalism X
Not exactly a good thing for me!!
Henrik texted back. I’m not joking 12
My heart skipped a beat.
He added: I’m serious
I locked my phone, but I couldn’t focus on work after that.
What does he mean by those words? Is he seriously trying to help me?
‘But neither of his solutions is actually good!
My thoughts were a mess, and by the time I saw Heston waiting at the company entrance after work, my frustration hit its peak
talk?
“What are you doing here?“%
He looked worn out. “Yvonne, I’ve been thinking a lot these past few days. There’s so much I want to say to you. Can we
I spotted a Blue Bottle Coffee nearby and told him to follow me.
If we’re having this conversation, I want control over it.
The café smelled like coffee. We found a table and sat down.
The waiter brought over our drinks.!!
I kept my expression cold. “Heston, your actions are making my life difficult. If you pull something like this again, I’ll call the cops
He looked at me with deep emotion. “Yvonne, I know you have a lot of misunderstandings about me. I already made Wendolene move out. I’m pursuing you again. Can you give me another chance?“)
“You two were getting married, weren’t you?” Lasked.
“We didn’t get married. And I never will marry her. You’re the only one I love!”
His gaze locked onto mine, and those sweet words rolled off his tongue effortlessly!
That’s how he got me before–with nothing but pretty words.
“I know you have the wrong idea about Wendy, so I made her leave. From now on, if you don’t like someone, I won’t see them. Yvonne, come back to me.”
I took a sip of coffee–bitter,
“What makes this asshole think that saying a few soft words would make me forgive him?
The coffee tasted good. The words–I didn’t like.!
“There’s no going back, Heston. You need to face reality. Saying a couple of nice things doesn’t make this go away. And even now, you still won’t admit you cheated on me with Wendolene?“”
He made it sound like I was the problem–like everything was my fault.
Then suddenly–Heston slapped himself. Hard.
Before I could react, he hit himself twice more.
I stared, stunned
“Yvonne, if I don’t say those things, does that mean we still have a chance? I really know I was wrong. If you won’t hit me or yell at me, I’ll just do it myself.”
His cheek turned red. “Five years together–are you really going to forget all of it?”
He was putting on an act, playing the role of a deeply devoted man, using self–harm to make me feel sorry for him.
But he miscalculated.
Watching him like this, all I could think was–he deserved it.
A man who betrays love should swallow a thousand needles.
He brought this on himself.
“Whether I forget or not is my business. Heston, let me say this one more time: we are done. And tell your parents and Wendolene to stop harassing me. If they do, I swear I will call the cops.”
I finished the last sip of my coffee. The bitterness coated my mouth until I couldn’t taste anything else.X
I got up to leave, but Heston suddenly dropped to his knees, grabbing my legs and begging.
“Treally know I was wrong, Yvonne! I don’t want to lose you! Please, just give me one more chance–I swear, I’ll treat you right this time!“||
A man as tall as Heston, clinging to my legs like this–it was pathetic.
Customers and staff in the café started staring, and my face burned with embarrassment.
“Heston, get up!”
“If I do, does that mean you’ll give me a chance?” he asked, looking up at me.!!
I refused to answer
Just as I was stuck in this humiliating situation, Henrik appeared.
He kicked Heston off me and stood protectively in front of me.
“Stay away from Yvonnel“:
Heston’s face darkened. This is between me and Yvonne. What the hell does it have to do with you?“%
His mask dropped. The gentleness, the fake remorse–it was gone. Now, all his anger was directed at Henrik.!!
If we weren’t in a café, they probably would’ve fought.
Henrik glanced at me, his eyes soft.
“I’m Yvonne’s boyfriend. I think that gives me the right to be here.”
