Chapter 6
“You’re just as stubborn as your father. I can
tolerate your father, but Raina might not
tolerate you.”
After hanging up, she looked at me.
Embarrassed, she sighed.
“I’m sorry, Raina. Garrett is stubborn and has
poor judgment. I’m sorry you’ve been
wronged.”
“But as a mother, I want to ask, is there really
no chance for you and Garrett?”
She looked at me expectantly.
I shook my head.
“Mrs. Garrett, why bother? Quincy and I are
doing great, and Garrett never really liked
me.”
“What’s the point of forcing two people
together?”
She sighed and left.
Г
Quincy texted me, asking where I wanted to
go for our weekend dinner.
I smiled, forwarding him a new restaurant I’d
found.
He gave me an “OK” sign.
My worries lifted. I went back inside.
It’s better to forget the bad memories.
Garrett and Bailey’s drama blew up overnight
and then vanished as quickly as it appeared.
Netizens were curious, but Bailey suddenly
disappeared from social media.
I caught a glimpse and ignored it.
The wedding was approaching, and Quincy
and I were busy.
A week later, I went for a checkup.
Quincy wanted to come, but I knew he was
busy.
After getting my results, I ran into Garrett in
the lobby.
He saw me and looked at me with dark
circles under his eyes.
I pretended not to see him.
“Lin Raina!”
He seemed to snap.
I turned, frowning. “Spit it out.”
He flinched. He wasn’t used to my tone.
“About the engagement…‘
He hesitated. Just as I was losing patience, a
sweet voice came from behind me.
“Garrett, who are you talking to?”
Bailey, in a mask, appeared with a perfectly
made–up face.
Seeing me, her eyes darkened, but she
quickly masked it.
“It’s Senior Lin! Long time no see, Senior Lin.”
She snuggled up to Garrett, linking arms with
him.
“I’m done with the doctor. Let’s go.”
Garrett stood still, staring at me.
Bailey’s expression tightened. She forced a
く
smile. “Of course, Garrett just got back, and
it’s normal for Senior Lin to want to catch up
with him.”
She acted like the graceful first lady. “I’ll wait
for you.”
I looked between Bailey and Garrett.
“Are you two really together?”
Garrett’s breath hitched.
“What if I said yes?”
I nodded. “You two are well–suited. Best
wishes.”
“But remember my double wedding gift.”
I turned to leave.
Garrett grabbed my wrist, his voice laced with
anger. “All these years, you still won’t let me
explain.”
“Why are you so calm, but always suspicious
when Bailey is around?”
