When I wake up, the love is gone
Chapter 1
It all started because I accidentally spilled my
drink on my husband’s girlfriend’s dress.
He then threw scalding hot oil all over my
face.
Watching me fall to the ground in agony, he
gently shielded her eyes.
“Don’t look, you might get scared.”
He coldly warned, “That’s the price you pay
for hurting Claire. Next time, it won’t just be a little injury.”
Feeling the searing pain, I calmly nodded.
I just got to the hospital lobby when I heard
Ethan and his friends gossiping about me. “Ethan, what are you doing picking her up? She’s got legs, she can get home herself.”
Ethan scoffed. “My dad insisted. He wants me to bring her home.”
“Your dad’s crazy, why would he make you
<
marry such an embarrassing woman?”
Ethan’s brow furrowed deeper.
“I don’t know. If it weren’t for him, I would’ve
divorced Lily ages ago.”
As soon as Ethan finished, he saw me.
His friends stared at my face and burst into
laughter, pointing at me. “Look at her face!
It’s even worse than ruined!”
Everyone joined in the laughter.
After laughing, Claire quickly tried to stop
them.
“Lily, they’re just kidding. Don’t take it to
heart. It’s okay if your face is ruined, you’re
already married anyway.‘
Her words only made the mockery worse.
Everyone knew Ethan didn’t love me; his heart
belonged to Claire.
Hearing it from Claire made me feel like a
complete joke.
Before, I would have cried, but this time I just
gave a quiet reply and prepared to get in the
car.
Ethan stopped me, playing with his car keys.
“Claire and I are using the car today. Walk
home.”
I clenched my fists, swallowing my bitterness.
Ignoring the taunts, I turned and walked away.
Ten minutes later, Ethan’s car pulled up,
blocking my path.
I walked around it, continuing on my way.
Ethan hesitated, then got out, grabbed my
arm, and pulled me into the driver’s seat.
He and Claire got in the back.
“You drive.”
With those ice–cold words, he and Claire
started kissing. Only the sounds of their
kisses filled the car.
I drove calmly, as if I couldn’t see what was
happening behind me.
After a while, Ethan stopped kissing Claire
く
and frowned at me.
“Pull over somewhere secluded, by the river.”
I did as he said. Ethan reached into Claire’s
clothes, sneering at me.
“What are you still doing here? You don’t
think I’d touch you, do you? Seeing your face
makes me sick. Get out!”
Then, they embraced again, clothes scattering
on the floor.
I grabbed Ethan’s jacket from the passenger
seat and tossed it into the back.
“Don’t dirty my new car.”
As Ethan glared at me, my phone rang. It was
Mr. Jiang, Ethan’s father.
“Lily, have Ethan answer the phone.”
“He’s busy making a baby with Claire in the
car.”
Silence on the other end. Finally, Mr. Jiang
sighed. “Are you really going to divorce
Ethan?”
く
“Mr. Jiang, the divorce papers are signed.”
I went to see Ethan that day to get him to
sign the divorce papers.
He signed without even looking.
The cooling–off period ends in a week.
