Brian spent the entire day showing me around
the institute. Compared to a few years ago,
the institute had changed a lot.
I couldn’t help but worry, afraid that I wouldn’t
be able to fit back in.
Perhaps sensing my worries, Brian didn’t say
anything and simply handed me his research
reports.
For the next few days. I spent my time.

of the institute and some of the research
progress with Brian’s help.
Brian was open with me; as long as he knew something, he would answer my questions.
To thank Brian for his help, I invited him to
my house for dinner that weekend.
While buying groceries at the supermarket, I
ran into an old acquaintance..
Ethan was holding a bottle of water and was
about to pay when he suddenly made eye.
contact with me.
He froze for a moment, then quickly walked
up to me, looked me up and down, and
breathed a sigh of relief.
“I’m so glad to see you’re okay. That day, I
just wanted to scare you into apologizing to
Sarah. I didn’t expect you to be so stubborn
and refuse to back down.”
“When I found you gone the next day, I
thought you had really been taken away by
that family. I was going to find them and
bring you back, but Sarah suddenly fell ill,
so…
“But I knew that with your intelligence, your
definitely wouldn’t let them take you.”
Ethan said with a smile.
But then, remembering something, his

expression turned displeased.
“Since you weren’t taken away, why didn’t
you go home? Even if you wanted to find Grandma Eleanor, you should have told us. Do
you know how worried everyone was about
you?”
“Especially Sarah, she kept thinking your
disappeared because of her and felt very
guilty. This time, you have to come home with
me and apologize to her.”
Ethan’s words made me laugh in anger.
I was the one who almost got into trouble, but
he actually wanted me to apologize to Sarah.
“Why should I? Ethan, in what capacity are
you talking to me now?”
<
Ethan subconsciously wanted to say he was
my fiancé, but then he remembered we had
broken up. He changed his words, “I’m
Michael’s friend, and you’re his sister. Of
course, I have to look after you for him.”
My eyes fell on the ring on Ethan’s ring finger.
“If my
brother knew his best friend couldn’t
wait to elope with his wife at his funeral,
would he still consider you his friend?”
“You have no right to mention my brother,
and no right to control me.”
Ethan froze because of my words, and I took
the opportunity to check out and leave.
As soon as I left the supermarket, Ethan
chased after mo again.
“Sarah and I are together only to take better
care of her. Can you please not be so dirty-
minded?”
“And I’ve said, this is just a temporary
arrangement. Once she’s out of her grief, I’ll
still marry you.”
Ethan’s words made me want to vomit.
I couldn’t believe he had the audacity to say
such things, as if he wasn’t the one who
made that scene at the funeral.
“Taking care of someone in bed? You’re so
thoughtful. Don’t forget, you said yourself
that you have no feelings for me, and that our
engagement was just because of our parents.
Now can you stop pretending to be
affectionate?”
“You and Sarah are a perfect match. Both of
you are heartless, a match made in heaven!”
Ethan still refused to leave. He grabbed my
arm tightly, looking annoyed.
“Stop messing around, okay? What do you
want?”
