A voice boomed from afar:
“The head of the Jo family has arrived-”

Chapter Two
Ethan froze at the sound of those words.
Sarah’s confident expression turned to panic
and terror. She stood still as a chauffeured
Maybach brushed her dress and stopped
before her.
A regal, white–haired woman stepped out.
Ethan’s grandmother, the head of the Jo
family–Matriarch Jo.
Her eyes fell on me first.
She walked toward me, ignoring the chaos,
her million–dollar cheongsam trailing on the
ground as she helped me up. Tears filled her
eyes.
“My dear granddaughter–in–law, you’ve
く
suffered so much!”
Ethan, usually like a mouse before a cat
around his grandmother, lost his arrogance.
“Grandma, why are you here?”
He saw the nanny who always accompanied
my daughter, and frowned.
“Why is the nanny here? She should be with
my daughter, not here gawking!”
The nanny stammered.
“Missy went out with Madam for her birthday
today…
A bomb exploded in Ethan’s mind. He almost
stumbled, forcing a smile.
“That’s impossible! Chelsea’s been here, and I
haven’t seen my daughter.”
Matriarch Jo’s anger was barely contained.
She pointed at the wreckage.
“You dare ask me? My granddaughter is…
is…”
She was too heartbroken to finish.
く
Sarah quickly interjected.
“Grandma, don’t listen to her! We checked;
there was no one in the car. Sister must have
hidden Missy to make you worry and improve
her status…”
Before she could finish, Matriarch Jo slapped
her.
“Who are you? You, a servant born to a Jo
family maid, dare interfere? Get down on your
knees!”
Sarah burst into tears, looking at Ethan
pleadingly. He shielded her.
“Grandma, Sarah may not be from a noble
family, but she carried on the Jo family line.
Why treat her this way?”
He pulled Sarah’s son, Timmy, forward.
Matriarch Jo stared at Timmy, then at me. I
almost fell over.
Now it made sense; his affection for Timmy,
letting Timmy call him “Dad ” ignoring my
く
daughter…
He’d betrayed us.
Timmy, feigning innocence, tried to approach
Matriarch Jo.
“Great–Grandma, I’m Timmy…”
Matriarch Jo pushed him away.
“What illegitimate child dares claim Jo
bloodline?”
She turned on Ethan.
“Ethan, I told you, only Chelsea’s child is a Jo
heir! This one from Sarah–the Jos reject
her!”
Sarah was devastated. She fell into Ethan’s
arms, her resentful eyes flashing with malice.
Timmy stared at me with hatred. But Ethan
and Matriarch Jo didn’t notice.
Matriarch Jo raged at Ethan.
“You heartless man! How could you treat
Chelsea? Without her, you might not have
even had an heir!”
<
Ethan flared up.
“Grandma! She deceived you! Sarah saved
me, not her!”
He sneered at me.
“If Sarah hadn’t stolen her jade pendant and
lied to you, Sarah would be Mrs. Jo!”
He pulled a necklace from Sarah’s neck,
showing Matriarch Jo the jade pendant.
A delicate “Wan” (meaning “evening“) was
carved on the white jade.
“I fell in the pond; a girl with this pendant
saved me. I searched for years, and now I
know it was Sarah!”
“Grandma, Chelsea deceived you!”
“But since she gave me a daughter, we raised
them for years. Since she’s causing trouble, I
won’t tolerate it anymore. I don’t recognize
my daughter! Send her and her daughter
away, and let Sarah in…”
Matriarch lo slapped him
