“You speak such vile words!”
She looked at Ethan with heartbreak, tears
streaming.
“The Cheng and Jo families were friends. I
carved that pendant for Chelsea! Why would I
mistake it? If the pendant hadn’t gone
missing at your engagement, I could have
proven it was Chelsea who saved you!”
Ethan reeled, questioning Sarah. She was
terrified.
Matriarch Jo glared at Sarah.
“Tell the truth, or you and your son will never
prosper in this city!”
Sarah knelt, confessing.
“The pendant…I stole it at the engagement
party…”
Ethan was frozen. His eyes burned as he
looked at Sarah. He looked at me. I turned
away.
He approached me, apologetic.
く
“Chelsea, let me explain…”
“Get out.”
I pushed him away.
“Ethan, after my daughter died because of
your inaction, we’re over. You’re not my
husband, never my daughter’s father!”
“Impossible!”
Ethan shouted.
“I checked the car! No one was inside!
Chelsea, I know you hate me, but don’t joke
about our daughter! I bought her a gift! Let’s
stop this, okay? Let me apologize…”
I looked at him, heartbroken. Tears welled up
for my daughter.
“Grandma brought a specialist; let them test
the ashes.”
The doctor arrived, somber.
“Matriarch, the ashes are human, matching
Mr. and Mrs. Jo’s DNA. It’s Missy…”
“No! Impossible!”
Ethan looked at me, then Sarah. He grabbed
Sarah.
“You said it was a doll! No one was inside!
How is this possible?!”
Sarah panicked, kneeling before me and
Matriarch Jo.
“Sister! Matriarch! I didn’t know! I thought it
was a dummy! It’s my fault! If I hadn’t been
mistaken…”
“Matriarch, Timmy was severely carsick, he
could’ve died! I focused on him! I just glanced
at Sister’s car! Timmy is Ethan’s only son, the
Jo family heir. It’s normal I didn’t notice!”
She used Timmy as leverage, threatening to
sever the Jo family line if they harmed her.
I was enraged, I slapped her. She cried for
help, but Matriarch Jo remained cold.
“Don’t use that illegitimate child to threaten
me! I know he’s not a Jo!”
“Grand…Grandma, what are you saying?”
L
Ethan, reeling, asked Matriarch Jo. She
tossed a report at him.
“This is Timmy’s DNA test, done when Sarah
tried to have him recognized as a Jo. See if
he’s your son, you fool.”
“Non–paternity” was written in bright red.
Ethan collapsed. He kicked Sarah.
“You bitch! You used a stranger’s child to
impersonate mine! I raised another’s child,
and my own daughter died because of you!”
He kicked her repeatedly; Timmy cried.
He clung to Ethan’s leg.
