The assistant stammered, “The housekeeper
couldn’t reach you… so he called me. He
said… Mrs. Walker is gone! There’s blood on
the floor…”
David’s phone slipped from his hand,
clattering to the floor.
He felt hollow, like something was being
ripped from his chest.
“Impossible. She loves me. She would never
leave me.”
He mumbled, a shell of his former self.

David roared, “Shut up!”
Silence fell over the room.
His assistant spoke cautiously, “Mr. Walker,

the pawn shop?”
David’s eyes widened, then he shook his head
vehemently. “No. I was so careful. How could

“And Whispers & Wishes never reveals client

While David reeled from the realization,
Amelia’s face lit up with uncontainable glee.
She clung to his arm, cooing, “Don’t worry
about her. Let’s just enjoy ourselves. Don’t let
her ruin our night.”
David looked at her, a wave of revulsion
washing over him.
Her smile was suddenly repulsive. He yanked
his arm away. “Get off me! Sarah is my wife!
Of course I care about her!”
Amelia’s face crumpled. She stared at him,
bewildered.
“David, how could you say that to me?”
<
He ignored her, storming out of the bar,
leaving Amelia stunned and fuming.
