7:
He raced home, running red lights, his mind a
whirlwind of panic.
The housekeeper, Mr. Lee, was waiting.
He had searched the entire house. Sarah was
gone.
Only a bloodstain and a divorce agreement
remained. Every trace of Sarah had been
erased.
David picked up the agreement, his eyes.
bloodshot, and ripped it in half.
L
Then, a thought struck him. He rushed to
Sarah’s room, pulling open the bottom drawer
of her dresser.
The baby clothes were gone.
He collapsed, sobbing uncontrollably.
When his tears subsided, Mr. Lee showed him
the security footage.
It showed Amelia’s cruel manipulations, her
taunts, her lies.
David felt a chill run down his spine.
He couldn’t believe the woman he had
cherished for so long was capable of such
cruelty.
<
Mr. Lee sighed. “Mr. Walker, Amelia isn’t who
you think she is. Your wife… she was the one
who truly loved you…”
David barely heard him, his ears ringing.
Had he made a mistake? He just wanted to
repay his debt to Amelia, to give her a good
life, to cherish her. What was so wrong with
that?
But Sarah’s heartbroken face in the video,
Amelia’s venomous words, they hammered at
him, shattering his justifications.
He remembered Sarah’s patient, forgiving
eyes, a vise tightening around his heart.
“Yes… I was wrong…”
<
He had killed their child for Amelia.
He had erased their memories for her.
What had he done?
He buried his face in his hands, tears
streaming down his face.
Amelia walked in.
Seeing the empty house, she smiled
triumphantly. “David, don’t be too upset. It’s
better this way. She wasn’t worth it. Who
knows, maybe she ran off with another man. I
know women. Trust me.”
David looked up, his eyes filled with rage and disgust. “Shut up!”
L
Amelia flinched, her smile fading.
She couldn’t understand his sudden change.
“What’s wrong with you?! You’re yelling at
me for that… that woman?! What’s so great
about her anyway?!”
David lunged at her, his hands tightening
around her throat.
“It’s all your fault! She wouldn’t have left if it
weren’t for you!”
His face was contorted with fury, veins
bulging in his neck.
Amelia gasped, her eyes rolling back, her
hands clawing at his.
He seemed intent on killing her.
Just as she began to lose consciousness, he
released her.
She collapsed, coughing violently.
“Death is too good for you. You took Sarah’s gift. Now, you’ll give it back.”
Amelia trembled, scrambling back. “David…
David… what are you doing? Let me go! You
can’t do this to me! I gave you everything!”
He dragged her to the basement and gouged
out her eyes.
