“Go get Sarah back. Tell her to apologize to
Vivian properly, make her a nice dinner, and
stop making everyone unhappy. She’s still
<
Mrs. Johnson.”
Mark instructed his assistant impassively. The
assistant responded without further comment.
He suddenly remembered something and
went into the bedroom.
Vivian acted unwell, feigning a cry of pain.
Seeing Mark turn around, she touched her
belly and said coquettishly, “Mark, honey,
when my sister comes back, don’t be angry
with her. She’s taken care of you for so many
years; she deserves credit. I’m hoping she’ll
be nice to our little one.”
Mark hugged her, caressing Vivian’s belly
lovingly.
“How could she not be? She was jealous that
you were pregnant, so she secretly tore up
your passport, preventing you from traveling
with us. If you hadn’t been so upset and tried
to kill yourself with the baby, I might never
have known how jealous she was.”
く
Mark’s tone was full of anger, but he
restrained himself for Vivian’s sake.
I gasped.
Last month, when Mark was away on
business, Vivian was bossing the maids
around at home.
“This house will be mine sooner or later, and
even if I have a baby, I’ll still call the shots.”
I thought she was crazy; how could she dare
to challenge me in my own home?
She provoked me on purpose, “This
honeymoon, you really think it’s for you?
That’s hilarious! He’s already had me prepare
–
our passports, saying he’ll take us me and
the baby – to the beach. You were just a tool
to cover things up!”
I couldn’t stand it anymore and had Mark’s
assistant throw her out.
But she suddenly tore up her passport,
throwing a tantrum, smashing several of
く
Mark’s precious porcelain vases.
She still wouldn’t give up, writing Mark a sob
story, claiming I looked down on her and that
she wanted to die.
Then, she climbed onto the fifth–floor balcony
of the villa and threatened to jump.
“Mark, honey, I don’t know what I did wrong
to make my sister hate me so much. She
refuses to acknowledge me and the baby; she
even tried to ruin our trip!”
“If we hadn’t missed each other back then, I
wouldn’t have to be your sister, constantly
belittled, without legitimacy. I’ve had enough!” Mark rushed back home; Vivian’s distraught appearance broke his heart.
That time, Mark cried, “Vivian, I’m sorry, it’s
all my fault…”
My heart was heavy. A passport, a melodrama
straight out of a soap opera.
It was just a trip; was it worth trying to kill
<
herself?
Only when Mark cruelly abandoned me in a
war zone did I realize how clearly love and
hate are defined.
“Sarah, Vivian has already suffered enough.
Her depression isn’t too serious, but if your
actions worsen it, I won’t forgive you!”
“Remember, your position as Mrs. Johnson is
my gift. Now, I want you to appease Vivian.
You have no right to fight with her. This is
your lesson. If you don’t apologize, you can
forget about coming home.”
And now, Mark was waiting for my humble
apology call.
Unfortunately, he wouldn’t get one. ·
“Sir… sir… we got a call from Myanmar,
confirming that Mrs. Johnson was murdered.
Her body was beyond recognition…”
Mark’s hand surprisingly trembled slightly,
dropping his phone.
<
I curiously approached his face, wanting to
see if he would be sad to know of my death.
Instead, he simply snorted.
“I abandoned her in a safe area, how could
she have been murdered? She had self-
defense skills. A few men couldn’t do
anything to her. She even had a satellite
phone! She’d never kill herself!”
“A body beyond recognition just means it’s
not her, if she’s trying this trick, let her be;
the wild dogs can have her, it’s what she
deserves!”
He picked up his drink and drained it, the glass clinking against the coffee table. “Tell
her, I want that call in ten minutes, otherwise,
she can forget about coming back!”
The assistant hesitated, not leaving, Mark
glared at him, “Get out of here, or I’ll send
you to join her!”
Vivian was scared by Mark’s harshness. Mark
く
quickly poured Vivian a glass of water.
He smiled ingratiatingly. “Vivian, when she
comes to apologize, don’t forgive her easily,
let her reflect a little longer. She has to
apologize sincerely and promise to take care
of you until the baby’s born. She deserves it.
Don’t be afraid, I’ll back you up.”
Vivian acted weak and submissive. “Mark,
honey…”
I couldn’t leave Mark’s side, forced to watch
him degrade me to the dust.
I was clearly dead.
But why did I still feel suffocated?
