Harrison took me for a full checkup.
After receiving the report, he sat silently, his
eyes reddening.
He had the doctors create a care plan, noting
every detail.
He was more caring than Holden with Susan.
After two days, Harrison took me to the
Holden estate.
But my status had changed.
I wasn’t the daughter–in–law who couldn’t
even eat at the table.
Harrison held my hand, sitting at the head of
the table.
“I returned, not just for the family business,
but for Nancy.”
“I’m marrying her, not just for the marriage
contract, but because I’ve loved her since
childhood. Whether you agree or not, it’s
decided.”
Holden dared not object.
He almost stabbed his steak.
Grandpa Holden coughed.
“Harrison, this isn’t right.”
“Nancy is your sister–in–law, Holden truly
loves her, why would you disregard your
brother’s feelings?”
“And Nancy cheated, seduced her own
brother–in–law, unfit to be Mrs. Holden!” Harrison slammed down his cutlery.
Looking around, he focused on Holden.
“That’s hilarious, coming from the Holdens.”
“Let me tell you how Nancy and I
reconnected.”
Harrison told them.
Holden left me on the street, I was targeted
by criminals.
They cornered me, about to abduct me.
Harrison rescued me.
He took me to his place, staying by my side.
After I calmed down, his assistant contacted
L
Holden.
Holden was dismissive.
“Nancy’s trash, I wouldn’t want her, who
would bother?”
“Next time, tell her to remove her makeup, no
need for me. I’m busy, don’t bother me with
this.”
Loud music and Susan’s laughter came
through the phone.
The assistant looked at me awkwardly and
sympathetically.
Harrison’s face darkened.
He looked into my eyes.
“Nancy, you lived like this all these years?”
Perhaps still shaken,
Overwhelmed with suppressed grievances,
Having not heard such caring words for so
long,
I cried before Harrison.
I told him everything.
ta
That night, Harrison, who never touched
alcohol or tobacco, smoked cigars all night.
He revealed his long–held love.
“Nancy, I’ve liked you since I was little, but I
was afraid to interfere with you and Holden,
so I left.”
“I didn’t know that bastard would treat you
like that, if I’d known…I would have married
you.”
“Nancy, let’s leave that bastard, let me love
you.”
I sat beside Harrison, feeling an
unprecedented warmth.
Someone loved me.
I was worthy of love.
Harrison would take me back, to get justice.
I shook my head.
“I’ll handle it myself.”
I decided to leave Holden.
The Holden–Shen marriage was fixed, I
Г
couldn’t change it.
But I could choose someone who loved me.
I made a deal with Harrison.
I’d handle Holden, end the marriage, then
start anew with Harrison.
It was difficult, but I did it.
Harrison said coldly, “You all know what
Holden has done.”
“But the knife isn’t in your own flesh, so you
don’t feel the pain. What did Nancy do
wrong? If her mother were alive, wouldn’t she
curse the Holdens for betraying their trust?”
“I’m protective, so is everyone here. You
protect Holden, I protect Nancy, whoever
bullies her, I won’t let them go!”
Harrison’s voice was firm.
I cried.
I held his hand, unwilling to let go.
I didn’t notice Holden’s red eyes in the corner.
