Lies Overturned, Love Drowns in
the Deep Sea
Chapter 1
My husband, Mark, took me and our son,
Ethan, diving.
Ethan’s oxygen tank malfunctioned.
I quickly took off mine and gave it to Mark to
switch them.
But Ethan still drowned.
And I was in a coma for six months from lack
of oxygen.
When I finally regained consciousness, I
overheard Mark talking to his assistant.
L
“Mr. Lewis, the inheritance beneficiary has
been changed. The young master was still
breathing when he was pulled out of the
water. Why did you…?”
Mark’s voice was cold.
“If I hadn’t run into Sarah at the beach that
day, I wouldn’t have known we had a child.
My inheritance has to go to Jason. This is
what I owe them.‘
33
“Don’t mention this in Amy’s room again. She
can’t know I used her oxygen tank to save
Sarah.”
His assistant looked hesitantly at me, still
lying unconscious in my hospital bed.
“Mr. Lewis, the doctors said there’s still a
<
cnance Mrs. Lewis will wake up. It she does,
how do we explain Jason’s existence?”
Mark walked over to me, his cold fingers
brushing my cheek.
His voice was unbelievably gentle.
“If Amy wakes up, I’ll tell her we adopted
Jason. That way, she can forget the pain of
losing Ethan, and we can still be a happy
family of three.”
Feeling his touch, I had to squeeze my eyes
shut to stop myself from lashing out.
So, in the ocean, he hadn’t given Ethan my
oxygen tank at all.
He had given it to his first love, Sarah.
く
He even knew Ethan was still alive when he
threw him back into the sea to drown.
Just to make way for the son he had with
Sarah!
This was the man I had loved for seven years.
My life, and my son’s life, meant nothing
compared to Sarah.
Thinking of Ethan’s wrongful death, rage
consumed me, and I passed out again.
When I woke up again, I grabbed my phone
without hesitation.
“Captain, it’s me. I’m awake.”
“Cian mg up for the program
L
“Sign me up for the program. As soon as
possible.”
Three hours after the doctor’s call, Mark
rushed in.
“Amy, you’re finally awake!”
He knelt by my bed, his eyes bloodshot.
“You have no idea how hard it’s been without
you. If you hadn’t woken up, I was going to
join you.”
He looked at me with an intense, loving gaze,
his eyes full of relief.
I wanted to believe his sincerity.
But the unfamiliar perfume clinging to him
<
reminded me he’d just come from another
woman.
Tears welled up.
“Where’s Ethan? Where’s our son?”
Mark paused, gripping my hand.
“Amy, try not to get upset. Even though I
gave Ethan the oxygen tank right away, he
still… he didn’t make it.”
Seeing my silent tears, Mark pulled me into a
comforting hug.
“Don’t cry. We can have more children.”
No, we can’t.
L
My heart ached.
I’d hemorrhaged after giving birth to Ethan.
The doctors said I could never have another
child.
Mark knew.
Yet he’d still killed the only child I’d risked my
life to have.
How could he be so cruel? He was Ethan’s
father.
Mark stayed by my side all night, comforting
- me.
As if nothing had happened, as if we were
still the loving couple we once were.
く
He left before dawn.
“Amy, get some rest. I’ll come back after
work.”
I didn’t say a word, waiting until he left to
open the security camera footage on my
phone.
Sarah was waiting for him in the living room.
“Mark, you’re back! Is Amy awake?”
Mark nodded. A flicker of something dark
crossed Sarah’s eyes before she smiled.
sweetly.
“That’s good. Now that she’s awake, I should
probably leave. This is your home, after all.”
く
Mark stopped her immediately.
“Sarah, don’t be ridiculous!”
“I promised you a home back in high school.
Even though I’m married now, my home is
your home! And besides, Jason is our son. I
wouldn’t leave you two homeless.”
Sarah feigned innocence and fragility.
“But what if Amy comes back?”
“She’s an orphan. She’ll be used to living
anywhere.”
Mark showed no remorse. He took Sarah’s
hand.
<
“You’ve suffered enough raising Jason on
your own all these years. Just stay here.”
Watching them gaze lovingly at each other, I
felt like my heart was bleeding.
I rewound the footage to six months earlier.
I discovered that Sarah and her son had
moved into our house the day after Ethan and
I’s accident!
My son was gone, yet he was embracing
another woman’s child.
He didn’t deserve to be a father.
As soon as the sun rose, I ignored the
doctor’s warnings and took a cab home.
く
The first thing I noticed was that our family
photo was gone.
Not just that, but the entire house felt like it
had a new mistress.
Fluffy bunny slippers by the door, pink covers
on the doorknobs, even the placemats were
pink.
But I distinctly remembered Mark hating pink.
He’d refused to have any pink in the house
when we decorated, insisting on his preferred
black, white, and gray palette.
He’d called pink tacky.
So why didn’t he mind now?
く
CC
“Amy? What are you doing home from the
hospital?”
Mark, still in his pajamas, looked startled to
see me.
“I’m here to get some clothes.”
I headed straight for the bedroom.
Mark tried to stop me, but the door swung
open.
“You must be Mark’s wife.”
Sarah, wearing a silky nightgown. smiled
L
sweetly at me.
“I’m Sarah. Mark’s first love.”
I saw the challenge in her eyes.
Before I could speak, Mark nervously pulled
me aside.
“Amy, don’t misunderstand. Sarah is an old
friend from high school. She had some
trouble at home and nowhere to go, so I let
her stay with us.”
I stared at him.
“So you let her sleep in our bed?”
Mark frowned, as if blaming me for not being
<
understanding enough.
“You were in a coma. It felt wrong to let the
bed go to waste. You’ve never been this petty
before, Amy.”
I swallowed my tears.
How understanding did I need to be to watch
my husband and another woman in matching
pajamas and not react?
But I didn’t have the energy to fight.
“I’m going to pack up Ethan’s clothes.”
<
When I opened Ethan’s room, the closet was
filled with unfamiliar Gundam models.
“Sorry, Mrs. Lewis,” Sarah said, her voice
laced with smugness. “These are all toys
Mark bought for my son. There were just too
many to fit anywhere else.”
I ignored her, marching to Mark and grabbing
his sleeve.
“Where are Ethan’s clothes? Where are his
things?!”
Mark grabbed my hands.
“Amy, calm down!”

clothes, so I had them burned.”
Burned?
I stumbled, my mind filled with images of my
sweet Ethan.
He was only four, but so much more
thoughtful than other children his age.
Ethan had been scared to dive that day.
But he knew it was a special occasion.
He’d gone through with it so Mark wouldn’t
he disappointed
<
be disappointea.
And his thoughtfulness had been rewarded
with abandonment by his own father!
I collapsed, the fight draining out of me.
