“You’re Mr. Chen’s sister, right? Please
cooperate.
That’s how he introduced me. To secure my
position, he’d told everyone I was his sister.
But our relationship was anything but brother
and sister; what brother hugs and kisses his
sister?
Realizing how unnecessary I was, I went
upstairs.
“Yes, I’m his sister, Evan. I’ll go upstairs
now.”
The old “Evan” made him frown.
But he said nothing until I was gone.
I sorted through the things Evan had given
me; their playful noises came from the room
next door.
“Mr. Chen, how’s the pressure? Should I put
more in?”
“Get ready, I’m coming.‘
وو
A high–pitched cry, “Ah!”
I covered my ears, but I couldn’t help thinking
of them.
At fifteen, Evan, at a charity event, saw me
shivering in the cold in just sandals and a thin
shirt. He’d cried.
He took me to the Chen house, providing the
best education and support.
He was my salvation, my dream.
After graduating college, I confessed my
feelings, only to find out he was already
engaged.
I intended to be his sister forever, but after
Lily left, he became intimate with me.
I thought it was the love I craved, giving up
my career to be his caretaker, the subject of
gossip.
But Evan never said he loved me. It was all
my wishful thinking.
When the sounds from next door subsided, I
left my room.
Passing Evan’s room, Shawn stopped me.
In a loose nightgown, her low–cut top
displayed several love bites.
A blatant display of what had just happened.
“Sister, get us some water. Warm, please.”
I stared, unable to hear.
Even though I’d suspected it, seeing it was
unbearable.
Unhappy with my silence, Shawn grabbed my
collar, her eyes menacing.
“What are you waiting for? Move.”
She flung me down the stairs, my forehead
slamming against the railing.
Before I could react, I heard, “What are you
doing?”
Shawn’s expression changed.
“Mr. Chen, you said I could manage her, but
she won’t even get you water.
ven get you water.”
وو
“Besides, I’m a doctor, I control the pressure.
I didn’t use force, she fell herself. Doesn’t she
I
want me to treat you? Should I go back to the
mountain?”
Evan, coming to check on me, was angered
by her words.
“Sarah, apologize to Dr. Shawn.‘
وو
“I taught you to be honorable. Those tricks
from the slums won’t work here.‘
So, in his eyes, I was a manipulative person.
Looking at Evan, his body reeking of intimacy,
I couldn’t help but ask:
<
“Manipulative? Explain what you were doing
in the room!”
Evan looked flustered, avoiding my gaze.
His response was even crueler:
“What would I be doing? Dr. Shawn was
massaging me with a special technique.
Sarah, when did you become so dirty-
minded?”
“Are you trying to drive her away, to keep me
in this wheelchair forever?”
“If you don’t apologize, I’ll never have a sister
like you!”
This was the man I thought I’d spend my life
with. I laughed bitterly.
Evan, you don’t know I’ll soon cease to be
your sister.
I stood, bowing 90 degrees to the triumphant
Shawn.
“I’m sorry, Dr. Shawn. I misunderstood.” “I’ll get you water. Please wait.”
<
Shawn’s smugness was palpable, but she
waved dismissively.
“Forget it, I’m just a doctor, I can’t order
around Mr. Chen’s sister.”
After Shawn left, Evan stopped me.
“Come here, let me treat your wound.”
I noticed the bleeding gash on my forehead.
He took out his medical kit, gently cleaning
the wound, his gaze intense.
After applying the medicine, he blew gently
on it.
“Blow it away, make it better.”
The cold–blooded CEO of Chen Corp used
his occasional kindness to keep me under his
thumb.
Whenever I tried to escape, he’d strengthen
his hold, making me submit.
But my heart was frozen; I wouldn’t obey
anymore.
I moved to the farthest room from Evan.
<
I didn’t want to see them together anymore.
But when I went back for Evan’s gifts, they
were gone.
Then I smelled burning from the backyard.
Shawn was tossing things into a bonfire.
I tried to stop her, but she held me back.
“What are you doing? Why are you burning
my things?”
She looked innocent.
“I just found some things in an empty room.
And they’re worthless compared to the herbal
medicine I’m making for Mr. Chen.
“”
She directed the servants to throw more
things in.
I watched my things disappear, and. stopped
struggling.
Let the ten years with the Chen family be a
dream, without a trace.
I stood stiffly, watching the ashes, clapping.
“Well done!”
Then, to everyone’s shock, I left.
I didn’t sleep, anxiously awaiting the next day.
Early in the morning, Evan and Shawn were
gone.
