After eight years of courting the
disabled monk’s son
Chapter 1
It’s been eight years since I started my
mission to win over the supposedly disabled
spiritual leader, Elijah. Finally, his affection
meter reached a measly one percent, and he
took me to a concert.
The lead singer, however, looked exactly like
his first love.
Heartbroken, I was about to leave when
terrorists attacked.
Elijah, miraculously leaping from his
wheelchair, shoved me aside and rushed
onstage, taking a bullet for the singer.
His push sent me sprawling, and I got shot
too.
The system declared my mission a failure,
and in that moment, I activated the emotion-
blocking system.
く
With it, I would lose all feelings–love
included.
- 1.
Chaos reigned at the concert. Elijah clutched
Jessica tightly.
His arm was bleeding, but he ignored it, eyes
fixed on Jessica.
“Are you okay? Don’t scare me.”
“Please, don’t die.”
It was the first time I saw Elijah so distraught.
He was known for his stoic demeanor, never
letting emotions show.
Now I knew he’d deceived me for eight years.
He wasn’t disabled at all; he’d faked it.
I lay on the ground, watching my blood pool.
My heart ached, fiercely.
“Host, mission failed. You’re dying.”
The system’s voice echoed.
Only then did I remember the eight years I’d
spent pursuing Elijah.
<
I’d been so happy that his affection had
finally inched up.
But now I realized it was all for Jessica, the
singer who resembled his deceased first love.
“The exit portal is still being built; it’ll take
three days. Host, you can leave in three
days.”
As the system spoke, I saw Elijah scoop
Jessica into his arms.
His eyes were red; he frantically searched for
help.
“Doctor, doctor! Help her!”
His concern was solely for this stranger, not
for me.
It was pathetic. Eight years, and I hadn’t
earned his love.
“System, I’ll leave, but activate the emotion-
blocking system first.”
My voice cracked, tears streaming down.
The emotion–blocking system was a reward
from a previous mission. I’d never used it.
The system was surprised. “Host, you only
have three days left. Are you sure you want to
activate it?”
“Yes.”
I answered without hesitation, my gaze fixed
on Elijah.
He’d already carried Jessica away, not even
glancing back.
My heart died in that moment.
“Okay, host. Emotion–blocking system
activated. You’ll gradually lose all emotions;
you won’t love anyone.”
I closed my eyes, shedding one final tear.
Elijah, this was my eighth year of loving you.
Today, I finally gave up.
Someone once said you can’t wake someone
who’s pretending to be asleep.
Just like I tried for eight years, and Elijah
never loved me.
