Why was Harrison Hayes staring at me like
that?
I got chills.
But… he was so handsome.
Since he started walking, his handsomeness
had been amplified.
The Harrison brothers: one delicate and
<
handsome, even more beautiful than a
woman, with a cold, distant aura; the other,
devilishly handsome, a crybaby in private.
They both were…
Unexpected.
But it didn’t bother me.
I loved handsome men.
Harrison Hayes was stunning.
Even if he had an unattainable love, so what?
All I cared about was his looks and his wealth.
Harrison Hayes‘ voice was stiff. “What were
you talking about with Harrison Cole?”
“Nothing.”
I wasn’t going to tell him about Grandpa
revealing his secret love.
I didn’t want him to start moping about his
lost love. I couldn’t handle that!
But Harrison Hayes seemed angry.
He pinned me against the wall.
His gaze was intensely possessive. “Evelyn,
<
remember your place. You’re my wife. Stay
away from other men.”
Harrison Hayes was usually calm.
He never spoke much.
But now, he had me pinned against the wall.
My heart pounded.
But then I remembered…
He could talk. He wasn’t mute.
And his legs were fine.
He chose to stay in his wheelchair for his lost
love.
My heart ached.
He loved someone else, yet he demanded this
from me!
I glared at him. “Harrison Hayes! We’re only
nominally married. You don’t control me!”
His eyes darkened. “Evelyn, do you think I
won’t take you tonight?”
He kissed me.
Clearly, Harrison Hayes had no kissing
<
experience.
He was practically gnawing on my lips.
Was he jealous?
No, he had a past love. I wasn’t even jealous!
I just talked to his brother!
This made me even angrier.
I bit down hard, tasting blood.
I bit his lip.
He winced and let go.
His eyes were hurt.
“Do you hate me that much? Don’t you want
to be with me?”
Why did he look so hurt?
He had another woman. He was using me.
Did I have to smile and serve him?
Harrison Hayes left, hurt.
That night, he lay beside me.
We slept back–to–back.
There was enough space between us for
Harrison Cole and his wife.
L
But I didn’t want to be near him.
What was the point?
He loved someone else.
It was the worst day I’d had since arriving at
the Harrison manor.
