Lyanna, are you out of your mind?” Dustin shouted, gripping my hand tightly. I summoned all my strength to push him away.
“I’m not crazy. I’m completely clear–headed. Ms. Watson says she’s pregnant with your child,” I said calmly.
“I think, the one you should marry is not me, but her.” I added.
I gave him a cold, expressionless look, then turned to walk away. Thinking of something, I paused and pulled out the other wedding ring from my pocket.
“Here’s the ring,” I said, handing him the box. He didn’t take it. His face flushed with anger, his voice trembling as he spoke.
“Lyanna, you’ve gone too far this time.
Are you not afraid I won’t marry you?” he demanded.
I gave a dismissive smile, my arm sore from holding the box, so I tossed it onto the floor.
I ignored him and walked toward Johanna. She seemed lost and confused by the sudden
turn of events.
Seeing her confused and anxious face, I couldn’t help but feel my eyes well up.
Johanna gently pulled me into a hug.
“Lyanna, I’m so sorry you had to go through this.”
I wiped my tears away, then took one last look at the woman who had always treated me like
a daughter.
“Mrs. Lawson, I’m sorry. I can’t be your daughter–in–law anymore.”
Dustin seemed to realize I wasn’t just throwing a tantrum and I really wasn’t planning on marrying him. He stepped toward me, but Renata grabbed his arm.
“Mr. Lawson, don’t you want to marry me? Let’s finish the ceremony first,” Renata said in
her usual sugary tone. But Dustin slapped her across the face so hard that half of her face immediately swelled up.
“What do you think you are? You think you deserve to marry me?” Dustin spat, furious.
Renata, stunned by the slap, fell to the ground, but Dustin didn’t spare her a second glance.
He rushed over to grab my hand.
“Lyanna, today is our wedding. How can you be so irresponsible?” he shouted.
“You’re not going anywhere. You have to marry me today!” he insisted.
The pain from his grip made me wince. Just as I was about to retort, Johanna slapped bustin
across the face.
“How dare you blame Lyanna after everything you’ve done?” Johanna scolded.
Dustin stared at Johanna in disbelief, instinctively letting go of my hand.
I rubbed my wrist, which throbbed from his grip, and spoke in a low voice.
“Dustin, I don’t want to marry you anymore.
This is what you wanted, isn’t it? So why make a scene now?”

Renata lied to you. I haven’t slept with her. She can’t be carrying my child,” he explained. Can we just get married first?” he asked, unwilling to give up.
He wrapped his arms around me tightly, but I couldn’t break free. His grip was too strong.
In desperation, I slapped him across the face.
The sharp sound of the slap seemed to freeze the air.
“Can’t you understand? I’m not marrying you. It’s over between us!” I said firmly.
I wanted to say more, but a wave of dizziness hit me. My vision blurred, and before I knew it was falling backward.
Before I lost consciousness, I could still hear Dustin’s desperate voice calling my name. “Lyanna!”
