A Mystery Chapter 18

Chapter 18

At Dusk Furnishing. Moira wrapped up her onboarding process and was shown to her very own office by an HR

The HR explained that the previous designer had left three days ago and that the space had been cleaned our and prepped. It wasn t fully stocked yet but she could hit up procurement for anything she needed

Moira gave a nod, taking in the info

Once HR left, the wandered over to the window and slid it open. From here, she could spot the sleek, modern building where Sailing Tech was headquartered

Farther out, her gaze landed on the towering presence of Fusion Peak Tech, a subsidiary of the local giant Morton Group. Known for its cutting- edge work in clean energy and semiconductor research, Fusion Peak was practically a local celebrity in the tech world

Since Fusion Peak relocated to Praukgas, the area had become a magnet for businesses Companies big and small were flocking in, lured by pry government perks like subsidies and tax breaks. These days, it seemed like every major player was moving their HQ here

As she admired the view, a knock on the door pulled her back to reallity

She turned to see Baldwin standing in the doorway, flashing her a friendly smile. He was one of the shareholders at Dusk Furnishing

Mr. Waits, she greeted politely, giving him a small nod

Come on, Moira, drop the Mr. Just call me Baldwin,” he said with a chuckle as he stepped into the room. I thought I’d show

ow you around”

Sure thingshe said, following his lead

Dusk Furnishing had made quite a name for itself in the interior design industry over the past two years

Known for its wide variety of styles, affordable pricing, and lifetime quality guarantees, the company primarily focused on midrange renovations and fully furnished rental properties

With a staff of over five hundred and a construction team exceeding two thousand it was a force to be reckoned with. In Eldoria alone. Disk Furnishing operated six branches, solidifying in local presence

As Baldwin walked Moira through the company’s structure, he explained how the designers were ranked into three tiers junior, intermediate, and senior. Each level corresponded to project budgets35 thousand dollars, 160 thousand dollars, and over 300 thousand dollars, respectively

Since you’re just starting out, Baldwin said, you’ll begin as a junior designer. It If lake time to build your portfolio and client have before you move

Moira nodded, absorbing every word

One more thingBaldwin added, his tone turning a bit more serious. You’ll be responsible for bringing in clients yourself. Walkins help, sure, but you’ve got to hustle for your own leads if you really want to make it here

Moira listened closely, feeling the weight of the responsibility, but also feeling motivated. She wasn’t one to shy away from a challenge

After the tour, Baldwin led her to his office. He handed her a file for one of his projects to help her get started. It’s a small one, but it’ll give you a feel for how we do things,” he said, offering her an encouraging smile

Got it Thanks, Moira replied, taking the file without overthinking it

Back in her office, she set the folder down and then headed for the restroom

Outside the restroom, a conversation was taking place

Have you seen the new designerShe’s gotta be someone special if Mr. Watts is personally showing her around.”

Word is, she’s one of his college buddies. And get thishe even handed over one of his own projects to her

Ah, makes sens

sense now. Miranda said she had zero work experience and didn’t even make it past the first round, but then Mr. Watts stepped in and insisted on hiring her

Typical She’s pretty, and guys are suckers for a goodlooking face.”

Still, I feel bad for you. You’ve been busting your butt here for a year as an intern. You’re finally about to lock in a permanent spot, and now she

alizes in and takes in”

Take it! Let’s see if she can

can actually hang onto it.someone else scoffed

After they finished talking and left, Moira stepped out of the restroom. She went over to the sink, running water over her hands, her brow furrowed in thought

Back in the office. Moira handed the project file back to Baldwin, who looked at her with a puzzled expression

This is your project. I can handle finding my own, Moira said evenly

Baldwin let out a soft chuckle. Moira, I’m swamped. If I don’t get some of this off my plate, I’ll be drowning in deadlines. Just think of it as helping

ME DUL

You’ve got other designers who could take it,” she countered, her tone polite but firm. I’m new here, and I don’t think it’s right for me to take on something like this so soon.”

Baldwin paused, leaning back in his chair, his eyes narrowing slightly Did someone say something to you?”

NoMoira said quickly. Taking a steadying breath, she added, Look, I know I’m green, and I appreciate the chance to be here. But I want to build my own client his and prove myself. I need to stand on my own two feet in this job.”

Baldwin seemed to get it, his gaze softening as he watched her for a beat longer. He smiled and placed the file back on the desk, Alright, but don’t hesitate to reach out if you hit a wall. You’re part of the team now.”

Of course, thanksMoira replied, her resolve still firm but a butle more at ease

Back at her desk, Moira opened WhatsApp and sent a quick message to the community groups she’d joined on WeChat. Need renovations? I’ve got you covered! Offering both partial and fullpackage uptionsfeel free to DM me||

Though she was technically new to Dusk Furnishing, she wasn’t a rookie. The 20 thousand dollars she’d lent Austin to start his business hadn’t fallen from the skyit was hardearned through her freelance renovation gigs and countless late nights drawing floor plans

Minutes ticked by without a single response, Moira leaned back with a sigh, her fingers drumming lightly on the desk. A faint ripple of worry began do creep in

Right then, her phone buzzed, cutting through her thoughts. When Virgil’s name flashed on the screen, her heart skipped a beat. & knot of nerves rightened in her chest

The events of the previous night came rushing back, and She felt her pulse quicken
