A Mystery Chapter 39

Chapter 39

When Moira woke up, the water in the bathtub had turned icecold. Fearing she might catch a cold, she quickly grabbed a towel, wrapped it around herself, and hurried out to change into her pajamas

After blowdrying her hair, she picked up her phone and glanced at the time, thinking, Zea should be back by now

She dialed her number. It rang several times, but no one picked up. She sighed and set the phone down

She went into the bathroom to wash up, did her skincare routine, and then pulled the curtains shut, ready to sleep. But then she had a thought, and decided to check again

The door to the master bedroom was slightly ajar, and there was no light on insidejust like when she’d come home earlier. She gently pushed the door open and perked inside. It was empty. Ele still hadn’t come back

She closed the door and was about to return to her room when, out of nowhere, she bumped right into a pair of cold, dark eyes. Startled, she froze, as if her body had been paralyzed. She couldn’t move

Once she regimed her senses, she stammered, “I just wanted to check if you were home…

Virgil didn’t respond, just turned his gaze away and continued smoking

Moira stood there for a moment, stiff, before she moved toward the kitchen to get a glass of water. As she returned to the living room with the cup in hand, she couldn’t help but glance at him again. His expression was cold and distant

They had known each other for a long time, but this was the first time she’d seen him smoking. For someone who rarely smoked, it was a clear sign that something was bothering him

Moura noticed his furrowed brows and the dark mood that seemed to hang around him. He looked upset. She felt like it wasn’t her place to get involved

She thought, After all, we have rushed into marriage, and everyone has their own problems to work through, right? ti is probably better for him to deal with it on his own

But after a brief hesitation, she walked over, set the water down on the coffee table, and gently took the cigarette from his hand, snutting it out and tossing it into the nearby trash can Smoking’s bad for you. You should cut back”

Virgil frowned, about to say something, but then he seemed to think better of it. After all, the was his wife, so he swallowed his irritation and kept quirt

Seeing that he didn’t snap at her, Moira felt a bit relieved and asked, Have you eaten yet? Are you hungry? Should I make something for you!”

She looked at him, her expression full of patience and tenderness. It was clear that, in that moment, everything about her was focused on him

Virgil watched her for a moment. Somehow, the heaviness in his chest seemed to lift. He nodded. Not yet”

Moira went into the kitchen Making better dishes would take too long, so she quickly made a plate of pasta, some steak and pizza, and some bacon

After he finished eating, Virgil felt the last of his frustration dissolve. He stood up, intending to head back to his room, bus Moira stopped him. Can you wash the dishes?”

Virgil paused, a little surprised, and frowned. We have a dishwasher.”

‘

a few dishes. No need for the dishwasher. You can wash them by hand, she replied

Virgil was left speechless. With the earnest look in her eyes, he found it hard to say no. Since he was the one who had eaten, it only made sense for

in to clean up

He rolled up his sleeves, folded them twice, and started clearing the table

Moira came in with the water cup, intending to supervise, but to her surprise, she didn’t need to. Virgil had even wiped down the glass table, leaving

sparkling clean

Looking at the shiny surface and then at his handsome, brooding face, she blinked in surprise. I didn’t think you’d actually do it

Virgil rinsed the cloth under the tap, wrung it out, and long it up. When he saw her bright, admiring eyes, he said nothing and walked out of the

Moira knew he wasn’t in a good mood today, so she followed ham, talking nonstop. She asked if work had been exhausting, how things were going with his colleagues, and if anything had been bothering himmaybe talking about it would make him feel better
