Chapter 47
After eating the blue cheese, Moira brushed her teeth and was about to go to bed.
She picked up her phone to switch it to flight mode, but before she could, the phone vibrated with an incoming call. The number on the screen was unfamiliar, with no contact saved.
Moira decided to answer it. A voice on the other end spoke first, “Is that Ms. Elliott?”
“Yes,” Moira responded.
This is Preston, the producer from Reformers. We met earlier tonight.”
“Hello, is there something I can help you with?” Moira instinctively tightened her grip on the phone. She had a feeling this call was about her contract–probably a termination notice.
“Ms. Elliott, I’d like to ask you a few questions.”
Moira pressed her lips together. “Go ahead.”
“Is there any inappropriate relationship between you and Dusk Furnishing’s CEO, Baldwin?”
“No.”
“Then, do you have any such relationships with anyone else? Any scandals or blackmail material hanging over you?”
“No.”
Preston seemed reassured by her quick, confident answers. He shifted his tone. “Alright then, don’t forget the schedule tomorrow. Our recording starts at 9 AM. You need to be at the venue at least half an hour earlier, understood?”
Moira was taken aback. “You’re not going to cancel my contract?”
Preston chuckled. “Since you don’t have any dirt on you, why would we cancel your contract?”
He paused, then added more seriously, “But listen, Moira, don’t try to pull anything. If you’re honest with me now, I won’t leak anything. If the show decides to terminate your contract, you won’t owe any compensation.
“But once we’ve invested money in the show and it airs, if any scandal or bad press comes out that causes damage to the program, we can sue you for damages.
“At that point, you’ll have no money, no reputation, and you might even end up bankrupt. You’d better think carefully about the consequences.”
Moira clenched her clothes tightly, trying to steady her racing heart. She spoke earnestly, “I have no scandals, no blackmail material. If I cause any damage to the show, I’ll take full responsibility. But please, don’t fire me. Give me a chance to prove myself.”
Hearing her sincerity, Preston chuckled again. “Alright, then. Be there on time tomorrow.”
The call ended, and Moira stood still for a moment, staring at the dark screen of her phone.
It took a moment for the reality to sink in. She thought, ‘I am not cut from the show! I can still go to the recording tomorrow!‘
Feeling clated, Moira couldn’t help but roll over on the bed. Her mind instantly wandered to the blue cheese Virgil had bought for her, and her mood lifted even more.
The recording was at Eldoria TV Station, where the team had set up a high–end home decor set for the main interview scenes.
Reformers Season I consisted of twelve episodes, with five teams. Each team had two designers: one professional and one non–professional.
Lach team’s design challenge would air over two episodes, and from those five teams, the top two would face the ultimate challenge in the final two episodes.
The detailed recording schedule had been sent to the designers two days earlier, but the team assignments for the non–professional designers were only revealed that day.
Wendy’s partner was Kayla, and Moira’s partner was Benton.
