My chest tightened, but I powered off my phone. I refused to respond to his messages. It was time to move on.
That night, I stayed in my own apartment. The next morning, I went to the new home Robert and I had prepared as our marital house to retrieve my things. Most of my belongings had already been packed and my art supplies had been moved to my studio the day before. All that was left was one last

I could hear Robert answer dotingly, “Silly girl. If you stay here, I’ll make them for you every day.”
Diana looked depressed. “You’re going to get married soon with Trudy. She probably doesn’t like us spending time together too much. Maybe I should leave.”
Robert pulled her into an embrace. “You‘ ve always known my feelings, haven’t you? Marrying her was never my choice. This decision is just to appease my parents. You’ve always been the one I truly wanted.”
I deliberately dropped my keys onto the floor with a loud clatter. The sound startled the two of them and they turned to look at me.

Robert followed me and tried to close the
door behind him. “Don‘ t overthink it.
Nothing serious happened. We didn’t go all the way.”
His words made me gag. I covered my mouth and shoved him aside. “Move!”
Then I dragged my suitcase down the stairs while ignoring the tremor in my hands.
“Trudy,” Diana called out timidly. “Are you moving out?”
At that moment, a car horn honked outside. Anthony’s driver appeared at the door.
“Miss Peyton, do you need a hand?“
