Robert looked at me with rage and disbelief. “You told me that you love me. If that was
true, how could you suddenly get engaged to Anthony?”
I looked at him and smiled. “You‘ re right. I did love you. However, I’m tired and don’t love you anymore. Love doesn’t last forever when it’s taken for granted. Isn’t it normal to move on? I fell out of love with you.
Besides, I’m in love with someone else now. You love another too. Isn’t it better this way? Let’s part ways cleanly and let each other live our lives.”

Anthony turned to me. “Trudy, let’s go. We still have guests to meet.”
Robert lunged forward as he was trying to grab me from behind. “Trudy, I won’t let you be with another man!”

Leon Lockman, Robert’s father, apologized, “Forgive me. I’ll take this sinful son away right

Then he seized Robert and scolded him, “Enough! You’ve made enough of a mess, you are capricious and presumptuous. Are you only feeling satisfied after I lost everything?”
Diana rushed to support Robert. “Uncle, it’s not Robert’s fault. It’s Trudy, she has gone

I turned back. My steps deliberate as I approached her. My voice carried a quiet fury. “I’ve gone too far? Diana, even at my worst, I can’t compare you to your repulsive

behavior. You, a single woman, though you knew Robert was engaged, yet you went to his house, wore the bride‘ s nighttime wedding dress and shared his bed in the master bedroom. Disgusting doesn‘ t even begin to describe you.”
“What, is this how the Delaney family is taught? A lady from a famous family? A renowned violinist? Does your audience know you’re a mistress in private?”
My words were like a resounding slap in her face, she took a step back and the guests next to her murmured, “I just can’t stand to see her acting pathetic like this every time.”
