Chapter 103
“Don’t make me get physed. Get out!” Moira demanded again, her voice cold and firm
Darlene’s face darkened. She hadn’t expected that even after lowering herself and saying so much, Moira would remain uncooperative. Furious, she anapped, “Does your mother know that you’re with Conrad?”
Moira pressed her lips together tightly, refusing to respond.
Do you really think Conrad will marry you? He’s just toying with your Men are all lustful. Once he’s done with you, I’d like to see how you can even think about going up against mel” With that, Darlene turned on hier heel and stormed toward the door.
As she opened it, Baldwin was standing there. When he saw Darlene, he recognized her as the wife of the Mitchell Group’s president. His eyes landed on her stained dress, and he quickly offered, “Mrs. Mitchell, shall I arrange for someone to help you clean up?”
Darlene glanced down at her ruined dress and then shot a furious glare back at Moira. Her anger erupted as she lashed out. “What kind of people do you even hire here? No class at
Moira’s face paled slightly upon seeing Baldwin but remained defant and silent
Baldwin sighed and tried to smooth things over. “Mrs. Mitchell, I’m sure Moira didn’t do it intentionally. How about this? Just let me know how much your dress is, and I’ll compensate
“I don’t want your money! I want you to fire this bitch right now! Otherwise, I’ll make sure my husband cuts off all of Dusk Furnishing’s business in Eldoria!” threatened Darlene
Baldwin’s face fell, but he calmly asked, “Mrs. Mitchell, is there some unresolved conflict between you and Moira?”
“Mr. Watts, this is between me and her. Please stay out of it Moira finally spoke, her icy gaze fixed on Darlene. “You want to make a scene? Finet I don’t mind airing everything out for everyone to see who the real bitch is!”
Moira emphasized the last four words. Her eyes flickered with anger and hatred.
Darlene faltered slightly, her anger giving way to tear, She worried Moira might expose her less–than–honorable rise to her current position–a truth she had always tried to bury
While she justified her actions by claiming that in matters of love, the unloved party was always the third wheel, she knew high society wasn’t so forgiving of mistresses clawing their way up.
Not many people knew about the marriage between Norman and Jane. If Moira revealed it, her carefully constructed image as a respected socialite would crumble.
Darlene ultimately swallowed her rage and spat out one last threat “Let’s see how long your smugness lasts? Then, she stormed out in anger.
After Darlene left, the office returned to normal. Everyone went back to their desk and quietly resumed their work.
Baldwin stood at the door, observing Moira for a moment before stepping inside. He asked with concern. “Moira, do you want to take the rest of the day off? You look exhausted.”
Moira looked at Baldwin and shook her head, her voice hoarse and drained. “No. I’ve still got a lot to do. I’ll leave after work
She sat back down, attempting to refocus on sharing her remodeling ideas with a client.
But her mind was a jumbled mess. She could not type a single word. The name Conrad Morton lingered endlessly in her head.
Moira wondered, “How could Virgil be Conrad?”
Suddenly, she recalled the faint “Mr. Morton” she had overheard that night.
“Moira, if you consider me a friend, you can tell me anything. help you figure it out, Baldwin said gently, his eyes searching her face
Moira looked up at him and replied coolly, “I’m fine. Please close the door on your way out.”
Her mind was in turmoil, and she was not in the mood to confide in Baldwin or anyone che,
She didn’t know how to tell him that her husband might actually be Conrad Monon, the richest man in Eldoria.
But she had married Virgil, and his name was on their marriage certificate. If his identity was a lie, Moira couldn’t understand why he wanted to deceive her.
