Chapter 104
Moira couldn’t focus on her work. So, she could only tell her client she had an urgent matter and would contact their lat
When it was time to knock off work, she went downstairs under her colleagues‘ judgmental gaze. As she stepped out of the building, her phone suddenly rang. Suppressing her turbulent emotions, she took a deep breath and answered the call.
Virgil’s deep and magnetic voice came through. “Moira, I’ll be on a business trip for two days. I won’t be home for dinner tonight”
Moira’s lips moved several times. She wanted to voice her doubts, but all she managed in may was, “Alright,”
“If anything comes up, call me. I’ll reply as soon as I can,” said Virgil.
Moira’s hand, hanging by her side, clenched into a tight fit. She gave a faint “Mm.”
After hanging up, tears rolled down her cheeks.
That night, Moira tossed and turned in the bed, unable to sleep
Before dawn the next day, she got out of bed and sat blankly with her knees hugged to her chest.
Memories of her time with Virgil after getting married loaded her mind. Suddenly, something struck her. She immediately grabbed her phone and found Page’s number.
Moira intended to call her mother–in–law but felt uneasy about it
She got dressed and went to the bathroom is wash up. After applying light makeup, she tucked her phone into her bag and headed out.
Unit 1-1103, Block 12, Lakeside Residence. It was the address Moira got.
Stepping out of the elevator, she checked the address on her phone twice to confirm the apartment number before pressing the doorbell.
“Coming! Who is it? Pige’s voice came from inside, and the next sebond, the door opened.
Secing Moira at the door, Page beamed and sakl, “Moiral What brings you here!”
“Page, Virgil is on a business trip, so I’m here to check in you on his behalf,” Moira said
Hearing this Page immediately assumed that Moira and her son were getting along well. Her smile grew wider as she invited Moira “Come on in! Have you had breakfast? If not, tell me what you’d like, and I’ll make it for you.”
Moira handed over the milk and fruit basket she had bought
Fage said, “Oh, you didn’t have to bring this. I’m just happy you came to see me. Why spend the money! I’ve got everything I need here.
Still, Page accepted the gifts, understanding it was a kind gesture. Then, she led Moira inside.
It was Moira’s first time visiting the place. The apartment was a two–bedroom unit with cottage–style decor. The furnishings looked old, with the floor slightly warped in places, but the space was spotless
On a walnut wood console in the living room sat a framed photo of a man.
“Is that Virgil’s father?” Moira asked silently to herself.
After putting the items away, Page returned with a glass of water and said warmly. “That’s Virgil’s father. He passed away two years ago, I should’ve put the photo away, but after so many years together, it’s hard to adjust. Though he’s gone, just seeing his picture makes me feel at ease.
Moira could understand and even admire such a deep hond between a couple. She thought Page was luckier than her mother.
However, Virgil didn’t seem to resemble his parents at all.
“Moira, is there anything you’d like to eat! I can make something for you, Page said.
“I’ve already had breakfast,” Moira replied. She hesitated for a moment before asking, “Page, do you have any photos of Virgil
“Virgil’s photos!” Page looked puzzled.
