Chapter 167 The Facade Crumbles
Jennifer had no desire to linger in conversation with Daniel, so she made her way towards the buffet table.
But Daniel, persistent, blocked her path. “Explain to me when I’ve ever favored Sarah? You’re just envious. Sarah is far more reasonable than you.”
Without hesitation, Jennifer doused Daniel with her champagne. The room fell silent.
“Now, are you awake?” Her voice was icy. “I’m done with your family’s drama, and I’m done being manipulated by your guilt trips!”
She refused to be swayed by moral coercion!
“Jennifer, how could you treat Daniel like this?”
Tottering in on high heels, Sarah rushed to Daniel’s side with a tissue to wipe his face.
But he instinctively evaded her touch, wiping the champagne from his face on his own. “What are you doing here?”
“I came with Asher,” she replied with visible embarrassment.
Asher approached, looking depressed as he regarded Jennifer. “Jennifer, Daniel has apologized. Can’t we move past this?”

Daniel’s career had now taken a hit, and what came next. remained up in the air.

Jennifer retorted with a sarcastic edge, “I never said I wanted to stir things up. Some folks are just itching for trouble. What am I supposed to do about that?”
Sarah spoke with a voice tinged with grievance, “This is all my fault…”
“Just zip it, you copycat. Of course, it’s your fault. If you’ve got any sense of shame, you should crawl into some foul ditch and stay out of sight, sparing us all the embarrassment.”
In a foul temper, Jennifer found fault with everyone in her sight.
Sarah’s eyes brimmed with tears. “That’s not what I meant at all…”
“Why don’t you just keep quiet? You’re acting like both the victim and the villain, aren’t you?”
Jennifer dismissed her, turning to leave.
The onlookers relished the drama, whispering among themselves.
Asher turned to Jesse. “My sister’s working with you, Mr. Martin. Please look out for her; she can be difficult. Feel free to reach out to me anytime if there’s anything you need.”

“Actually, Ms. Hargreaves is friendly,” Jesse countered.
He turned to Asher with a complex gaze. “Mr. Asher
Hargreaves, there’s something I’m unsure if I should voice. After all, this is essentially your family matter.”
“Mr. Martin, please go ahead.”
“I believe you’ve completely misunderstood Ms. Hargreaves. She’s brimming with talent, so why hasn’t your family ever nurtured her? Instead, you stifle her, strip her of her work, and
lap someone else’s name on it!”
No sooner had Jesse finished his piece than Jason approached, remarking. “They’ve turned their backs on their gifted sister to back a lackluster imposter. Are the members of the Hargreaves family insane?”
Daniel’s voice dropped to an icy chill, “Do you have the guts to repeat that?”
“I’ll say it a hundred times if I have to. Everyone here agrees,” Jason retorted.
His flamboyance was justified because he knew he was in the right.
Daniel was teetering on the edge of an outburst when Asher turned grave. With a firm grip, Asher seized him and warned, “What on earth do you think you’re doing?”
“Asher, don’t stop me.”

Daniel was furious.

Asher fixed his gaze on Jason and coldly countered, “We’ve admittedly been a bit careless in the past, and yes, tensions. have flared between us and Jennifer. But remember, we’re still family. There’s no rift too wide to bridge.”
Jason arched an eyebrow. “I think Ms. Hargreaves would thrive away from your family’s shadow.”
Asher’s face darkened with disapproval as he said, “Mr. Clinton, you owe your current status because of my sister’s brilliance. She’s undeniably gifted. But to drive a wedge between us just so she’ll write songs for you? That’s not going to fly.”
“With your family dynamics, do you really need me to drive at wedge?”
Jason remained unruffled by Asher’s remarks.
Sarah spoke with a hint of frustration, “This isn’t on Asher or Daniel. The clash is between Jennifer and me. She’s always been paranoid that I’m here to steal her spotlight, but honestly, that’s never crossed my mind.”
“You may say you didn’t think this way, but your actions speak otherwise. You’re the sole beneficiary of this whole mess, so quit playing the innocent card here.”
Jason shot back, not sparing Sarah an inch. “If you truly feel remorse, then you should leave the Hargreaves family, rather

than spouting these words while comfortably basking in all the Hargreaves family provides! Everyone sees through your intentions!”
Sarah was left speechless.

Jason then walked towards Jennifer, leaving Jesse to offer Asher a piece of advice, “You’ve erred in this, Mr. Asher Hargreaves. Your stance on Jennifer is misguided.”
The same drama played out at the last banquet, and it repeated itself at the dinner Jesse had set up for Jason and Jennifer to
meet.
The Hargreaves family’s unfair belittling of Jennifer was simply unbelievable.
Asher watched Jennifer from afar and wore a wry smile, “Mr. Martin, do you also believe we’ve wronged her?”
“Exactly, someone not in the know would swear Jennifer’s the adopted child, as if she’s indebted to you all from another life. The way you treat her is just too automatic.”
Family should support one another, but not at the cost of treating one like a resource to be exploited.
