After finishing her speech, Millie rolled up the car window, hoping this incident would make Jennifer understand and stay contentedly by her son’s side.
Once Millie left, Jennifer finally let out a long breath she’d been holding.
She hadn’t expected Millie to storm into the studio like that. It nearly gave her a heart attack.
Jennifer returned to the studio to find the atmosphere had turned awkward.
After all, Millie had warned Jennifer in front of everyone without saving any face. It proved how marrying into a wealthy family wasn’t as glamorous as it seemed.
A colleague cautiously approached Jennifer and said, “Are you okay? She is way out of line. Who says women can’t have their
careers?”
“Well, every mother in the world wants their son’s wife to take care of the family and their precious son like he’s still a baby who never grew up.”

Kelly, who had been listening nearby, immediately chimed in with a snide remark. “And here I thought marrying into money would be so glamorous. Turns out you still have to bite your tongue and take the abuse without talking back.”
Jennifer’s coworker couldn’t stand it anymore and snapped back. “What’s with the attitude, Kelly? Weren’t you the one who just yelled at Millie and nearly got our studio in trouble? You’ve got some nerve.”
“Even if marrying into a wealthy family is tough, some people are just bitter because they’ll never have the chance.”

Kelly, feeling ganged up on, fired back angrily. “How is this my fault? Jennifer’s the one who brought her here. I wasn’t wrong! Outsiders aren’t allowed in the studio.”
Kelly had always been jealous of Jennifer marrying into the Clark family’s wealth and status.
Seeing Jennifer get chewed out by Millie had made her day. It felt like sweet karma.
“Fine then.” Kelly stood up. “If you all hate having me around so much, I’ll just leave.”
Jennifer could only manage a bitter smile as she turned to her colleagues. “Don’t worry about it. I’m not taking it to heart.”
Jennifer returned to her seat.
She wouldn’t let whoever was behind this get away with it.
When Jennifer instinctively reached into her bag for the voice recorder, she discovered it was missing.
Her face instantly paled. “That’s impossible! It can’t be gone.”
Jennifer dumped everything out of her bag but still couldn’t find the recorder.

Someone asked. “Jennifer, what are you looking for? Did you lose something?”
“I bought a voice recorder earlier, but now it’s gone.”
Everyone helped Jennifer search, but they came up empty–handed.
Jennifer suddenly looked at Kelly’s empty seat. “When I stepped out earlier, did Kelly come by my desk?”
“Yeah, I think she did. Said she was looking for some design files and hung around here for a bit.”
“You think Kelly took your recorder? What would she want with it?”
Jennifer figured it out. Kelly had no reason to take the recorder herself, but someone else did.
She rubbed her temples, thinking she should have been more careful.
But when Millie suddenly showed up, Jennifer went into full defense mode, focusing all her energy on dealing with that situation.
She never expected to fall victim to someone’s scheme.
Jennifer immediately called Kelly, but there was no answer.

When Kelly pressed play on the voice recorder, she was shocked to find recordings of Sarah and Jennifer’s heated arguments, along with personal attacks against Timothy.
It must have been Jennifer’s leverage against Sarah.
Kelly suddenly had a change of heart and called Sarah. “Jennifer just realized the recorder’s missing. She called me, offering double the money to return it. What do you think? Should I take her up on it?”
The color drained from Sarah’s face. Absolutely not!
