Catalina’s POV
“What kind of sick game are you playing?” Sophia demanded, her voice. trembling as tears threatened to spill.
“Have her sit on the chair to my left,” I ordered, my tone calm but cold. Kallias and Kiton grabbed her roughly by the arms, dragging her to the chair. She struggled, but it was futile. They forced her
to sit.
“Catalina! Answer me!” Sophia yelled, her voice cracking. “What is this game you‘ re talking about? I know you‘ re planning to kill me and my child. This is just another way to torment me, isn’t it?”
I ignored her, pouring another glass of wine and taking a slow sip. Her desperation was amusing. “You’ll see,” I finally said, my tone as nonchalant as
ever.

“Tell me now! Don‘ t make me wait!”
she demanded, panic clear in her voice.
“Stop dragging this out!”
Before I could respond, Kallias returned, holding an envelope.
“It’s from Senator Maxwell,” he said, handing it to me. I took it without a word and dismissed him and Kiton with a wave of my hand.
“You two can leave now. I’ll handle her
myself.”
Kiton hesitated, his eyes scanning my face. for any sign of doubt. He had been loyal to me, even after thinking I had died in that fire six months ago. But he didn’t know the truth–that Sophia had lied to Javier, claiming I had left him for another man. I had kept the details to myself. Some truths. were better left buried.
“I’m fine, Kiton,” I assured him. “Sophia is no threat to me.”
Reluctantly, he nodded and left with

Kallias. Sophia sat stiffly in her chair, biting her thumb as if she could think her way out of this.
“You won’t escape, Sophia. No one will help you here,” I said, snapping her out of her thoughts.
“You don’t know me, Catalina. I always find a way,” she replied defiantly, her voice laced with misplaced confidence.
I laughed, and her brows furrowed in confusion.
“Are you losing your mind? Laughing like that all of a sudden?” she snapped.
“No, Sophia,” I said, my laughter fading into a mocking smile. “I’m laughing at you. Did you really think I wouldn’t
notice the tracker in your earring? Kallias disposed of it. Javier won’t be coming to save you.
Her mouth fell open in shock. She reached for her earring, her hand shaking when she realized it was gone.

“The senator–your dear Uncle Robert- has been working for me. Didn’t you know?”
“That’s a lie!” she spat. “Uncle Robert is loyal to the government. He would never involve himself in illegal activities”
I tilted my head and smirked as I opened the envelope. “Oh? Then explain this.” I pulled out the documents and held them up. “He signed off on the shipment of two containers full of drugs and illegal weapons. No inspections, no proper procedures. Just his signature.”
“That’s not true!” she shouted, her voice wavering.
I shrugged. “Believe what you want. But it seems like your family has a knack for dancing with devils. What’s the difference between him and you, Sophia? You, who fell into bed with a cartel leader?”
Her face twisted in anger, but she had no words to counter me. I turned on the

television. The timing was perfect. The news showed Senator Maxwell being
arrested.
“What’s happening?!” Sophia’s voice
cracked as she stared at the screen in
horror. “Why is my uncle being arrested? Why are they saying I reported him? Catalina, what have you done?”
She turned to me, her eyes blazing with fury. “You witch! You set me up!”
Before I could respond, she lunged at me, grabbing a bottle of wine from the table. She raised it, ready to smash it over my head, but I was quicker.
I grabbed her wrist, twisting it until the bottle fell to the floor and shattered. She yelped in pain, but I didn’t let go.
“Don’t you dare try that again,” I
warned, tightening my grip until she winced. With a swift kick to her leg, I sent her sprawling back into the chair.
Her hair was a mess as she clutched her

arm, glaring at me with tears in her eyes.
“You’ll regret this,” she hissed.
I stepped closer, grabbing a fistful of her hair. She cried out, clawing at my hand, but I didn’t let go.
“Next time you try something like that, Sophia, I won’t stop at pulling your hair. I’ll make sure you regret it in ways you can’t imagine,” I said, my voice dripping with venom. I let go, and she slumped back into the chair, trembling.
Her phone rang in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw the caller ID: Love.
“Javier,” I said with a wicked grin. I answered the call.
“What the hell, Sophia ?” his voice. barked through the line. “Why did you report the shipment? Do you have an
any idea what you’ve done? You‘ ve ruined everything!”
“Babe, help me!” Sophia screamed, but I

ended the call.
I turned to her, my smile widening. “So much for your knight in shining armor.”
Her face paled, and I leaned in closer, whispering, “Let’s see if he‘ Il bother to save you now, Sophia.”
