Chapter 366 Turning on Each Other
Asher had always treated Sarah with a tenderness that even Jennifer found unfair, to the point that it made her want to leave the family altogether.
But he never expected Sarah to say what she did.
Sarah’s expression turned pitiful as she spoke, “Please don’t blame me, Asher. I had no choice. Lately, Dylan hasn’t been speaking to me. I know he’s angry, but I really had no other option. You were there. You should understand what I was going through.”
Asher’s frown deepened, clearly still confused.
“So what do you want me to do about it?”
Sarah, clearly desperate, continued, “If Dylan won’t even talk to me, how am I supposed to recover? I had no choice but to take matters into my own hands.”
She was anxious, barely holding it together.
She needed to heal, but without Dylan’s support, she felt helpless.
Asher stared at her. “And after doing all this, what exactly do you think you’ll gain?”

“I don’t know,” Sarah said, throwing her hands up in frustration. “I’m all over the place right now. Please, don’t push me. I can’t think clearly.”
She was putting on an act, pretending to be overwhelmed, refusing to give Asher any clear answers.
She needed to wait until this situation blew up before she could. make her real demands.
Asher could feel his patience running thin. He watched as the officers ushered Sarah away, almost as if they thought he might lose control and do something drastic. The sight only made him angrier.
He turned back to Sarah. “What do you want, Sarah? You need to tell me what you want.”
Sarah lowered her head, silent.
Jennifer, ever the instigator, leaned in with a sly comment. “Are you really that clueless? Sarah wants her injury healed and for the Hargreaves family to take full responsibility for it. She thinks you owe her for everything.”
The words hit Asher like a punch to the gut. His eyes widened as he turned back to Sarah.
“If that’s the case,” he began, his voice cold but determined, “you could have just told me. You’re adopted, yes, but that doesn’t mean I’ll ignore your injuries. I’ll makes re you get the proper treatment.”

He meant it.
After all, if Sarah’s injury was left untreated, it would reflect badly on the Hargreaves family.

But Jennifer wasn’t done yet. She scoffed, adding, “You don’t get it, do you? Even if you fix her injury, it’s not enough for her. She’s got other demands. Things she’s not saying yet. You’ll see soon enough.”
Asher stared at Sarah with growing frustration. “Look, if you tell me what you want now, I’ll consider it. Medical treatment, money… whatever it is, I’ll take care of it. But if you stay silent, then you’ll get what you deserve.”
His tone was sharp now. “You really think you’re going to win a lawsuit with no money and no lawyer?”
At the mention of money, Sarah’s eyes flickered.
She glanced at Asher and then sighed, clearly torn. “I’m just too confused right now. I need time to think.”
She wanted to drag this out longer. The longer she waited, the more she could squeeze out of the Hargreaves family.
Just then, Millie emerged from the interrogation room, and her expression was anything but pleased.
Given her status, there was no reason why she should be here at the police station unless something seriou had happened.

In some ways, Sarah had proven herself resourceful.

Millie’s face twisted in disdain when she saw the Hargreaves family, and especially Sarah. “You Hargreaves girls really have some nerve, don’t you?”
Sarah immediately started crying, trying to explain herself.
“I didn’t want to cause any trouble. I’m just stuck in a bad situation.”
Millic scoffed. “Spare me the act. Don’t think for a second that I can’t see through your little scheme. You’re trying to blackmail me, aren’t you? Well, guess what? I’ve got an entire legal team. Good luck with that.”
Her words were as cold as ice, but Millie had every right to be arrogant.
The Clark family was one of the top families in the country, with power and influence that Sarah simply couldn’t match.
After a pause, Millie turned to Jennifer, her gaze icy. “It’s better for both our families to call off the engagement. Otherwise, these kinds of things will keep happening, and I’m not letting anyone hold my family hostage like this.”
Asher’s blood ran cold as he heard her words. He felt an overwhelming urge to lash out at Sarah.
