I felt a bit dazed.
Perhaps his love for his secretary Scarlett was also, in some way, an attempt to make up for his birth mother.
But none of this matters to me anymore.
In the late autumn, Daniel and I got married.
The wedding guests were either wealthy or elite. The lives of the rich are always full of incredible excitement, so my divorcing the younger brother and remarrying the older one didn’t cause much of a stir.
Everyone was wishing us a lifetime of happiness together.
Daniel put the ring on my finger.
I lowered my gaze to look. The deep red mark on my ring finger was covered by a more expensive, better–fitting large diamond ring.
This was a diamond ring specially customized for my hand by the best jewelry master, commissioned by Daniel. He was willing to put in both thought and money for me.
Tommy liked Daniel very much. He quickly accepted the fact that “uncle” became “dad“, calling him “Dad” endlessly every day.
Daniel didn’t find it annoying at all. Instead, he was very happy and always responded to Tommy, often taking him to the park to play. Tommy
became more and more attached to him.
His kindness to Tommy was genuine, I could see that.
On New Year’s Day, the whole family gathered for a meal. Halfway through, I suddenly felt nauseous. I immediately covered my mouth and rushed to the bathroom, throwing up until I was pale.
I pulled out a tissue to wipe my mouth and looked at myself in the mirror with a bitter smile.
This uncomfortable feeling was all too familiar – when I was pregnant with Tommy, I had thrown up like this too.
I took out a pregnancy test from the drawer.
Looking at the clear two lines, I fell into deep thought.
When did I conceive this child?
It was impossible to calculate. After all, Daniel and I had been too indulgent these days… Thinking of this, I covered my face in
“Emma, are you okay? Come out as soon as you’re done throwing up. I’ll drive you to the hospital, Daniel’s steady voice showed panic for the first time.
I opened the door and hid the hand holding the pregnancy test behind my back, “I’m fine, but I have big news to tell you.”
Daniel’s expression was very serious, “Tell me. No matter what happens, we’ll face it together.”
I stretched out my hand to show him the two lines, “I’m pregnant.”
Daniel froze.
A moment later, his eyes gradually filled with uncontrollable joy, “That’s wonderful! I’m going to be a father again. Tommy was just telling me the other day that he felt lonely. Now he’s going to have a little brother or sister to keep him company.”
I shyly nestled in his arms.
Ten months later, I gave birth to an adorable daughter.
Daniel was so happy he couldn’t stop smiling, “Our daughter’s eyes and chin look like yours, while her forehead and nose look like mine. This child really knows how to grow, combining the best features of both of us.”
I snorted lightly, “Oh, so Daniel thinks my forehead and nose aren’t good–looking.”
He immediately came to my side, “Of course not! My wife is the most beautiful. Don’t get angry, okay? Getting angry during the postpartum period is bad for your health.”
I giggled and lightly kicked his butt.
