Her Husband’s Ch 47

Chapter 47

Adam slammed the door behind him, his eyes scanning the apartment in disbelief. It was a disaster—furniture overturned, papers scattered, and things broken.

Brenda had gone through everything, and the evidence of his plan lay in tatters. He cursed loudly, feeling a wave of frustration and misery.

“Why does everything keep falling apart?” he muttered to himself, running his hands through his hair.

His mind raced as he tried to piece together what had just happened. Everything was supposed to be in control, but now… now he had no idea how to fix it.

With an angry swipe, he grabbed his phone and called his private investigator. The phone rang twice before a voice answered.

“Boss,” the investigator said, his tone cautious.

“Did you get me the information I asked for?” Adam demanded, pacing back and forth. His patience was wearing thin.

The investigator hesitated. “I did, but there’s something you should know first.”

Adam stopped in his tracks, sensing the unease in the man’s voice. “What is it?” he pressed.

The investigator sighed. “The media person… the anchor who gave me Alex’s address. She told me to keep it secret.”

Adam’s brow furrowed. “What do you mean ‘secret’? What’s going on?”

The investigator hesitated again, clearly uncomfortable. “I… I paid her for the information, but if anyone finds out, it could cost her her job.”

Adam’s eyes narrowed. “Why didn’t you tell me this earlier?”

“I didn’t think it would matter,” the investigator stammered. “But now that you’re asking… I have to be honest. The anchor works for Alex’s family’s media company. That’s how she had the address. She’s connected to them.”

Adam’s stomach sank. “So, it was Alex’s sister all along? She’s the one who…?”

“Yes,” the investigator confirmed. “The company is headed by Alex’s sister. It’s all connected.”

Adam swore under his breath. He couldn’t believe it. He’d been so careful, but now everything was tangled up in Alex’s family, and it was all starting to feel like a trap. He thanked the investigator, who sounded relieved to be rid of the conversation, and ended the call.

“Damn it…” Adam muttered, leaning against the wall as his mind reeled. He needed a way out. Brenda had found out about the video, and now his plan was ruined. He had to fix this, but how?

Suddenly, it hit him like a bolt of lightning. The only way to get ahead in this situation was to play the media game. He needed someone on his side, someone who would hear his side of the story without the bias of Alex’s family looming over them.

His heart skipped a beat. There was someone he knew who could help him—Emilia.

Adam had met Emilia years ago, back in college. They’d dated for a while before he broke things off. It hadn’t been easy, and even though they’d parted ways, he’d kept a few friendly ties.

But what really mattered now was that Emilia was a media person. She worked in the industry, and he knew she had connections. But she was Alex’s twin sister. And he didn’t want to get involved more with Alex.

He paced the floor, contemplating his next move. Alex hated his guts, and it was no secret why—aside from the fact that Adam had married Sophie, Alex’s long-time crush, Adam had also dated his twin sister.

He picked up his phone, his thumb hovering over the screen. His heart raced, his mind torn between guilt and desperation.

After a long moment of hesitation, he found her name in his contact list: Emilia.

Taking a deep breath, he tapped the number and waited.

The phone rang once… twice… and then—

“Adam?” her voice came through, clear and sharp, with a hint of surprise.

Adam froze, his breath catching in his throat. He hadn’t expected her to pick up so quickly.

“Emilia,” he managed to say, his voice almost foreign to him. He hadn’t spoken to her in years, and hearing her voice brought back memories he hadn’t anticipated. “It’s been a long time.”

“Yes, Emilia,” Adam muttered softly. “I need your help.”
