My advisor looked over at me, his eyebrows furrowed.
“Did you tell her about her
11:09
results early?”
I crossed my arms.
“I left their test results
behind. But I guess they
didn’t look at them.”
Sarah’s smile instantly
dropped.
My coworkers came over and surrounded me, and
started whispering among themselves about my belly.
“They treat you so badly. and you are still going to donate?!”
“You’re way too kind, why
would you kill your baby to
save this awful person?”
After hearing what people
were saying, Sarah stumbled
backward and fell into a
chair.
Matt was the only one left
who was still raging.
“Ava, you pulled all your
coworkers into this too. You
think you can get away with this?! We’ll see how long it
820
<
takes for this department to get shut down, and I’ll
personally make sure every
single one of you goes down with it.”
No one paid any attention to
his threats.
Because Sarah’s nose was
bleeding.
One drop.
Two drops.
They dripped onto her
pristine white skirt.
Sarah freaked out.
Her eyes were watering, and she quickly put her hand up to her nose to stop the blood. She tried to cover up the stains on her dress.
She raised her head,
horrified and angry.
“It’s all your fault, you’re the
one who did this!”
No one responded.
The others alanced at her
<
with varying degrees of pity.
And that’s when she fell
apart. Tears were running down her face, and she was dragged out of the office by
security.
Sarah didn’t make her tour.
Her whole family was
rushing her from one
hospital to another.
And, of course, the results
were clear.
They finally found the test
results that I had left behind.
They finally realized what they had done.
6
The day that they found the results, my mom called me.
As soon as I answered, she
started sobbing
uncontrollably.
“Ava, you did this on purpose!”
“They always said you had a
<
dark heart, and I never believed them. Now I do.”
“You intentionally made us
fight with you, so that we
would cut you out of the
family, so that you didn’t
have to save your sister.”
She wasn’t thinking that she needed me to save Sarah.
Because Sarah was
surrounded by money and resources, they were sure she would recover.
She didn’t need to pretend, so she just cursed me out.
I hung up the phone and blocked her number.
After weighing the pros and
cons, they decided to
contact my advisor.
We met again at the
hospital.
