‘Baldwin’s not that kind of person” Moira said.
Virgil said, “Quit your job.”
Moira stared at Virgil, her previously shy demeanor slowly turning cold. She curled her fingers into a fist. pressed her lips together, and said. “Virgil I hope you’ll respect me. This is my job, and I’m really enjoying it right now.
She had finally mustered the courage to start over. Now, she had plenty of clients, working every day on design plans with them, supervising the construction crew, and sometimes even visiting furniture markets. Her life felt full.
She hadn’t felt this grounded in a long time.
This sense of satisfaction was something she never experienced while working as Austin’s assistant:
Virgil said. “Is asking you to quit your job disrespecting you?”
Virgil’s long, elegant fingers removed the cigarette from his lips, flicked the ash, and as the smoke swirled around him, he looked at bier with a half- smule. his
eyes cold. “Moira, I think you’re actually enjoying his attention.”
Moira pressed her lips tightly together, then remained silent for a moment. She ran her fingers through her hair, then coolly said, “I’m beautiful enough that even if I quit and moved to another company, there would still be men who like me. Should I quit just because someone has feelings for me?”
Virgil frowned, about so speak, but she cut him off and continued. “Virgil, compared to the men who like me, there are probably even more women who are interested in you. The girl earlier clearly liked you, and there must be female colleagues or staff at your company who have feelings for you
“As your wife, I can’t help but feel insecure. So, if I asked you to quit your job, would you agree?”
Virgil met her gaze, his thin lips curling into a cold seductive smile. His voice remained calm as he replied, “Moira Ive told you that I can guarantee my loyalty to you after marriage. You don’t need to worry about that.
Moira said, “1 can guarantee my loyalty too. Why won’t you believe me?
Virgil frowned, about to respond, but Moira spoke first, “Have you never had a meal with someone of the opposite sex? Even if it’s just for work, or to help someone out, isn’t it normal to invite them to dinner? Aren’t you being a little too old–fashioned?”
Virgil’s expression darkened. “You think I’m old–fashioned!”
Moira felt an inexplicable twinge of fear but still stiffened her neck and said defiantly, “I just think you’re being hypocritical. You’ve got way more women interested in you, so why should I be the one to quit my job?”
Neither of them spoke for a moment. After a tense silence, Virgil stubbed out his cigarette, got up with a cold expression, and walked into the bedroom, slamming the door behind him.
The sound made Moira jump. She stared at the closed door for a minute before realizing he was angry.
“But why was he the one who got to be upset! If anyone had a reason to be angry, it should be me. Virgil had no right to doubt me, Moirs thought.
Sull damp from the rain, Moira returned to her room but didn’t head to the shower. Instead, she grabbed her phone, intending to vent to Zea a
When she opened WhatsApp, Zea had already sent her several messages:
Did you wear the lingerie I bought you? What was Virgil’s reaction? Bet he was completely blown away!]
Wow, you’re not even replying now, huh? Guess you two are busy, huh? I’m so jealous right now ]
I can’t take it anymore. I need to find myself a man too. If I don’t get some romance soon, I’ll totally dry up.! Moira sighed in exasperation.
Zea quickly followed up with another message. [Done already?”
Done already? That fast? Guess Virgil’s not all that after all.]
Seeing the words “not all that immediately irrated Moira. She had fully intended for things to happen tonight. Zea knew it too. But Virgil hadn’t picked up on any of her signals. Instead, he had chosen to argue and ruin the mood.
Frustrated. Moira hit the voice recording button and launched into a rant. She vented about how Virgil had accused her of having something with

She ranted for a solid terr minutes, yet there was no reply from Zea
Even more annoyed, Moira finally snapped. “Why aren’t you saying anything!”
Zea hesitated, typing and deleting her reply multiple times before finally sending it. [I think you’re trying to make me jealous.]
Moira was speechless.
