Chapter 136
Zea said, “After dinner, you should head home. Don’t let me mess things up between you and your husband.”
Moira replied, I can’t leave you alone at home. I’m worried about you.”
“What’s there to worry about! I’m not a kid,” Zea responded nonchalantly, picking up some food and putting it on Moira’s plate.
She added, “Moira, remember what you said: people need to look forward, not backward. I haven’t done anything wrong, so why should I keep paying for the mistakes of those who hurt me!
“All the videos and photos are gone from the internet now. That chapter’s over for me, and I’m moving on. I plan to start working again tomorrow. You really don’t need to worry about me.
Moira had been worried about her friend for a while, but hearing that Zea was ready to get back to work made her feel better.
Still, thinking about her confession earlier that morning made Moira feel frustrated.
Zea, noticing her friend’s distracted mood, asked curiously. “You and Virgil haven’t made up yet!
She cast a casual glance at the marks on Moira’s neck and added, “Couple fights can be handled easily. If one round of making up‘ doesn’t work, just have two rounds.”
Moira fell silent.
Noticing Zea’s pointed look, she put down her knife and fork and awkwardly touched her neck. Her face turned red. The marks were pretty obvious, so she had covered them up with foundation and concealer earlier.
After a long day and sweating from carrying things home, the makeup had definitely faded a little.
Zea, teasing her, said with a grin, “Looks like he’s got a strong appetite. Bet it’s not just one round, huh?”
Moira rolled her eyes. “Can we talk about something else?”
“Okay, then why are you hiding out here and not going back? Zea put down her utensils, folded her hands on the table, and leaned forward, eager to hear Moira’s story
Moira glanced at her with a knowing look and took a napkin to gently wipe her lips. After a moment, she sighed and started telling her about the events of the morning.
Zea raised an eyebrow. “So, just because you confessed and he didn’t respond, now you’re avoiding him!”
Moira crumpled the napkin into a ball and clenched it in her hand. “It feels so awkward going back now”
“What’s awkward about it? He didn’t say he doem’t like you,” Zea replied, picking up her knife and fork agam
“But he didn’t say he likes me either,” Moira muttered
Zea paused, her knife and fork stilling in midair. She looked up at Moira and asked, “Moira, have you noticed that what you want now it more than what you wanted at the beginning!”
Moira blinked, a liule caught off guard. “Why do you say that
“You told me before that you married Virgil so you’d have someone to share life with, that you didn’t have the energy for a second relationship. But now, you like Virgil, and you expect him to like you back. You see? Haven’t you fallen for him?
Moira’s mind froze for a moment, and almost instinctively, she denied it, “I said that because I didn’t want him to overthink things. I don’t want to quit my job, thur’s why.”“
“Come on,” Zea interrupted, speaking with certainty. “We’ve known each other for years I can tell what you’re thinking with just a blink. You like Virg Tve known that for a while”
Moira’s lips parted, as if she wanted to explain, but Zea pressed on, “Men and women think differently, right? Virgil’s twenty–eight, Maybe he just doesn’t know how to express himself.
Moira bit her lip, lost in thought for a moment. Finally, she whispered, “What if he doesn’t like me?”
