Virgil didn’t respond. It seemed Howard had picked up on the fact that he wasn’t as invested as before, so he didn’t ask any more questions.
After hanging up, Virgil was about to go to bed when he suddenly heard a noise coming

The lights were on in the living room, and the sound was coming from the kitchen. He walked toward the kitchen door and saw Moira standing ar the counter

“What are you doing? Virgil asked.
Virgil stepped inside, his eyes scanning the kitchen. What had once been a clean, spacious counter was now clustered with small appliances and dishes. His gaze passed over a small bear–themed mug before landing on Moira.
She was wearing an apron, her hair tied up in a messy bun, and the sleeves of her pajamas rolled up, revealing her slender, fair wrists. She held a kitchen knife in one hand.
“I didn’t have dinner tonight–just two pieces of cake–and now I’m a little hungry. I thought Fd make a late–night snack,” she said.
Since finishing work at five o’clock, Maira had only had some snacks and hadn’t eaten anything substantial. Now, she was starving. Light snacks couldn’t compare to a real meal.
“Are you hungry? Want to eat something with me? She looked up at him, her bright eyes full of innocence and sweetness,

“My pasta is really good. Want to uy some?” he asked.
Virgil forced himself to focus, nodding, “Sure.” He turned and left the kitchen.
Moira relaxed at last, her tense shoulders dropping. She touched her flushed ice, wondering why, whenever their eyes met, she felt that odd flutter in her chest. It was as if she couldn’t quite catch her breath.
A few minutes later, Virgil returned, but instead of heading back to his bedroom, he took a slow look around the living room. It was then that he noticed how much things had changed
The coffee table now had a clear vase filled with fresh flowers. The sofa was covered with matching slipcovers, and a rug with a bear pattern lay on the floor. Nearby, a three–tiered shelf held two books, a bag of chips, and two pieces of chocolate.
What was supposed to be a liquor cabinet had been filled with ceramic figurines. On the balcony, there was a small table and a mint green chair. with two potted plants tucked in the comer.

To save on living costs, Moira decided to buy some essent items and kitchenware. She planned to cook breakfast and dinner at home, unless absolutely necessary
