Chapter 44
No one in the room had expected Moira to speak so bluntly, thinking, “The show hasn’t even started yet, and unless you are truly confident in your abilities, who would dare act with such assurance?‘
But as they watched her–standing tall, composed, and unfazed–something about her calm confidence made them start to believe that maybe she really was that skilled.
Wendy hadn’t expected Moira to publicly put her down like this. She was shaking with rage, “Moira, what makes you think you’re better than me? You haven’t even worked in this field for five years! I’m a senior designer at Wonder Design!”
Moira remained unfazed. “Designers at Dusk Furnishing all start as juniors. After proving themselves, they get promoted to intermediate or senior positions. Just because you’re a senior designer doesn’t mean you’re more capable than me. It just means you’ve been there longer,” she said, her tone sharp.
“Moira, you-
“Wait a minute, I remember now, You’re also from Zlego University, right?” Preston, the producer, spoke up unexpectedly.
Before signing any contracts with the amateur designers, the team had already gotten basic background information,
Preston recalled that although Moira didn’t have as impressive a resume as some of the other designers, she had excellent grades at Ziego University and had even won awards in several home design competitions.
That’s right. Not only were Ms. Jory and I classmates, but we were also roommates,” Moira responded, deliberately emphasizing the word ‘roommates.” She couldn’t help but feel satisfaction watching Wendy’s face turn pale with frustration.
Preston nodded. “Graduates from Zlego University are usually quite capable.”
With that, the argument seemed to fizzle out.
Wendy, still seething, couldn’t find the words to continue, Kayla’s face was dark with displeasure,
Austin, noticing the small smile tugging at Moira’s lips, found it irksome. He suddenly spoke, his voice cool and cutting. “Moira, why make things so awkward? Kayla doesn’t want to work with you because you’ve been with me for five years,
“You’ve given a lot for Sailing Tech during those years, but relationships can’t be forced. My concern for you has always been purely professional- just a boss looking out for his employee. If I gave you the wrong impression, I’m sorry,”
Moira blinked in disbelief, her gaze fixed on him.
The decision to let you go was mine alone. Kayla is kind–hearted and doesn’t say much, but I understand her feelings. No woman would tolerate having a third party around her boyfriend, don’t you agree?” Austin added.
As soon as Austin finished, the women in the room quickly chimed in, supporting his words.
“If my boyfriend had another woman around, I’d break up with him right away!”
“Kayla’s boyfriend is so handsome, rich, and loyal. A guy like him is one in a million!”
“Kayla must have done something incredible in her past life to deserve such luck. Plus, she comes from such a well–off family–she’s the ultimate life winner!”
“Moira is seriously shameless. The production team should kick her off the show. She’s just so annoying to watch!”
She has that fox–like face. If Kayla’s boyfriend wasn’t so strong–willed, who knows what might have happened? Maybe she really is having an affair
that Dusk Furnishing CEO!”
As she heard these comments, Moira’s face drained of color, her fury reaching its peak. “Austin, are you even human?”
She couldn’t believe he was so shameless as to place all the blame on her, casting her as the third party while portraying himself as the loyal, rusunderstood hero.
Austin’s gaze flickered slightly, but his expression remained earnest as he continued, “If you feel Sailing Tech’s compensation wasn’t enough, I can give you more.
“But I hope you won’t take it out on Kayla. She’s innocent. Unlike you, she wears her emotions on her sleeve and isn’t as calculating”
That was a direct hit. Moira, furning with anger, grabbed the orange juice beside her and splashed it straight forward.
Clearly expecting this, Austin quickly pulled Kayla behind him, shielding her from the splash.
