Chapter 94
When the meeting ended, the old cronies‘ arrogant and overbearing words still echoed in Conrad’s mind.
He went into his office and instructed his assistant not to let anyone in. Leaning back in his chair, he lit a cigarette. After smoking half of it, he played some classical music to let his mind gradually calm down.
The phone on his desk suddenly rang. He glanced at the screen. When he saw Moira’s name, the tight frown on his face relaxed slightly, and a faint smile rugged at his lips as he picked up the call.
There was no immediate response from the other end. Conrad leaned back lazily in his chair as he waited patiently. Occasionally, he caught the sound of car horns in the background. She’s outside? he wondered.
Sensing something was off with her mood, Conrad was about to ask when Moira finally spoke. “Virgil, did you check X today?”
Conrad wasn’t into social media, but Perry had shown him something earlier about some ridiculous “Shirt Couple” posts. That was when he created an account, though he rarely logged in
Tapping the ash off his cigarette, Conrad replied with a teasing edge. “What’s this is Mrs. Adams stirring up more rumors again?
“No… no, it’s not that. Yesterday, when you came to the hotel to pick me up, someone took a photo and posted it online,” Moira explained.
Conrad’s brows furrowed slightly. He opened the X app and immediately spotted the trending topic. Clicking on it, he found the photo.
The man was silent for a long moment, so Moira assumed he was upset and blaming her. After all, if she had not participated in the show, he wouldn’t have been caught on camera.
Moira added guiltly, I’m sorry. I’ve caused you trouble. I’ll post a clarification later. You can just tell your colleagues you’re a rideshare driver and happened to take my order yesterday…”
Conrad skinned through the comments, and his expression grew grim. “Moira, am I that embarrassing to you?”
Moira was at a loss for words. She had actually wanted to tell everyone that he was her boyfriend, but she felt the need to ask him first, in case he didn’t want to make their relationship public since his private life would be affected once exposed.
“Or are you planning to keep me hidden forever and fake a relationship with that other guy?” Conrad added.
Moira felt like there was a a trace of clenched anger in his voice, though she couldn’t be certain
“Then… should I just tell them you’re my boyfriend?” she asked tentatively
Conrad took a long drag from his cigarette and exhaled a stream of smoke. Then he said with a teasing smile, “Am I not your husband?”
On the other end, Moira stuttered, “B–but… I haven’t told my mom yet. She’s online a lot, and I’m afraid she’ll see it. Can you give me a little more
Conrad understood that their relationship p hadn’t been disclosed to their families yet, so it wasn’t the right moment to go public.
However, he couldn’t resist teasing her Hearing her get so flustered and tongue–tied always amused him. He could practically picture her blushing and fidgeting on the other end of the line.
Thinking of the unfinished business from the night before, he asked in a low voice, “Are you outside right now?”
“Uh–huh. How did you know?” Moira asked
frome pick you up, and we’ll grab lunch together.
Conrad said. “Where are you? Tile
Moira gave him her location.
After hanging up, Conrad stubbed out his cigarette, grabbed his car keys, and headed out the door.
