Chapter 10
A few days after that, Veronica bothered me
again.
“What do you want?” I snapped as I opened
the door.
Veronica looked pale and weak.
“…I got a court summons. Kyle, why are you
divorcing me?!”
I leaned against the doorframe.
“You cheated on me, of course I’m divorcing
you!”
Veronica started crying.
“Can’t you help me, for Grandpa’s sake? The
company’s going down…”
I knew she was going to ask for something.
“Did you ask your grandfather if you could
come here?”
Veronica shook her head.
I called Mr. Smith and explained the situation.
The old man was silent, then scoffed.
“Kyle, it’s your call.”
I hung up and said to Veronica, “Sorry, I’m not
working for you anymore.”
Veronica cried.
“Why? This is unfair! You’re so cruell
aborted the child for you!”
I shrugged.
“You chose this! You brought this on
yourself!”
I slammed the door.
“Kyle, please just listen! I know I was wrong!
Please!”
She pounded on the door, but I didn’t open it.
Veronica left, and a few days later, the
company announced a restructuring.
It didn’t go bankrupt, which was probably Mr.
Smith.
He hadn’t given up on it, but he wasn’t
helping Veronica, since she was demoted.
He had a plan, not for Veronica, but for the
company.
He didn’t think Veronica could take over the
company, and he was thinking of how to
make a new line of business.
Cody was targeted and went back home.
Then, I got a job offer from Smith Enterprises
to be the head of Cybersecurity.
I sat down at the head seat, Mr. Smith
nodded.
Looking at me, the staff’s expressions
changed.
Then, I fired the staff, so many of them tried
to act like they were on my side, but it was
clear they were against me.
I saw Veronica on the floor, she started
crying.
After that, I never saw her again.
